Powers/Abilities: The Overseer is an immense super-computer within a high-tech fortress equipped with various cameras, booby traps, and power beams. The Overseer itself was protected by a powerful energy shield and could use sonic blasts, blinding light flashes, and other attackers to drive off intruders. It also used Myrmidon to destroy anyone who assaulted its form.

History:
(Iron Man I#29 (fb) - BTS) - An unnamed Latin dictator established a tyrannical rule of his Caribbean nation, using the Overseer, a super-computer he had designed and constructed, to maintain control.

(Iron Man I#29 (fb) - BTS) - Maria and a group of others fled the oppression of the Overseer, escaping a group of soldiers and taking to the sea in a small sailboat.

(Iron Man I#29) - Maria and the others were discovered and rescued by Tony Stark and his assistant Sandy. After hearing Maria's tale, Iron Man flew to her island to overthrow the Overseer. He made it past the downtrodden citizens and the various security measures before confronting the Overseer. Iron Man's attacks proved futile against the Overseer, which eventually unleashed Myrmidon against him. The sounds of Iron Man's battle inspired the citizens to rise up and fight the soldiers around them. Iron Man managed to blind Myrmidon, who unwittingly smashed portions of the Overseer while thrashing aimlessly. Iron Man then broke through an air vent that he used to find the Overseer's command center, which he reprogrammed so that the Overseer and Myrmidon attacked and destroyed each other. Iron Man found the dictator within the ruins of the Overseer and brought him outside, just as the entire fortress exploded. The people, having overcome the soldiers, then vowed to take back their land and their rights.

I don't think this island nation was ever identified, was it?

Myrmidon

It was a robot also constructed by the Latin dictator. The Overseer unleashed it against Iron Man, but Iron Man reprogrammed the Overseer and Myrmidon to attack and destroy each other.

It was approximately 12' tall and had superhuman strength (Class 25-50?) and durability. It could also absorb certain forms of energy (or at least sound) and return it, vastly amplified.

dictator

He designed and constructed both Myrmidon and the Overseer, which he used to take over his island nation, forcing his people to work themselves to exhaustion, and virtually depriving them of free will, while he lived a life of luxury. He was overthrown by Iron Man, after which he explained that he thought he was helping his people.
