OSCILLATION JACKETS

Classification: Terrestrial technology

Creator: Reed Richards

User/Possessors: Fantastic Four; temporarily used by the Thought Police

First Appearance: (prototype) Fantastic Four I#362 (March, 1992); (first full appearance) Fantastic Four I#363 (April, 1992)

Powers/Abilities/Functions: The jackets allow dimensional travel via vibrational attunement; they can even provide access to astral/mental planes.

History: (Fantastic Four I#362) - Reed used a prototype device to oscillate his molecules so that he could first access the Inniverse. This led to Franklin and Sue Richards being taken captive by agents of Occulus and taken into the Inniverse.

(Fantastic Four I#363 (fb)) - Reed completed working models of the Oscillation Jackets.

(Fantastic Four I#363-365) - Reed, Johnny, and Ben used Oscillation Jackets to enter the Inniverse, rescue Franklin and Sue, and return home. Reed carried his wife and son, and his Jacket provided the vibrational attunement to allow them to traverse the dimensions as well.

(Sleepwalker#15) - Reed later used an Oscillation Jacket to aid the Thought Police in travelling into the mind of Sleepwalker host Rick Sheridan. Reed wore the jacket himself, while the Thought Police were linked via remote hook-ups. Wiretap later jammed that remote link when Reed attempted to pull the team out of Rick's mind.

Comments: Created by Tom DeFalco, Paul Ryan, Dan Bulanadi and Christie Scheele

I imagine Reed might well have a patent on the Oscillation Jackets, as he does on some of his other inventions. Presumably, other Marvel characters wanting to traverse different dimensions could legally (or otherwise!) obtain Oscillation Jackets much as many of them use Reed's Unstable Molecules to make their costumes.
