History:
(Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. I#8 (fb) - BTS) - Half-Man was the result of Supremus' first successful experiment in genetic manipulation -- he was originally a normal man, but was partially reverted back to a basic amoebic form (see comments).

(Nick Fury, Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. I#8) - Half-Man assisted Supremus at his base in the facilitation of his plans to enslave humanity with his "Zombie-Gas" and create a new race to replace mankind. Supremus began to have officials of various world intelligence agencies assassinated -- Half-Man was present when Supremus sent out a signal to order the assassination of S.H.I.E.L.D. director Nick Fury.

When Supremus sent a video message to the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier, commanding the organization to disband, Half-Man appeared in the background of the transmission.

But Fury had survived the attempt on his life, and eventually infiltrated Supremus' base. Once Fury entered the cavern, Supremus trapped him behind steel walls, then sent Half-Man to execute him. Fury tried to fire his laser pistol at his four-armed adversary, only to discover that Supremus had erected an invisible shield that negated his weapon's power. Half-Man followed up with a stun-blast from his own energy pistol, knocking Fury to the ground. As he approached the prone S.H.I.E.L.D. director, Half-Man was about to impale him with his spear, but Fury managed to kick him away.

As Fury made his way to his feet, Half-Man threw his ax at him, only missing the S.H.I.E.L.D. director's head by mere inches. Fury then threw his best "Sunday punch" at Half-Man's jaw, but it barely jarred the four-armed creature -- however, it did make Half-Man drop his spear.

Realizing that he was outmatched in terms of physical power, Fury picked up the spear and hurled it at Half-Man, impaling and apparently killing the four-armed monstrosity with his own weapon (see comments).

Comments: Created by Ernie Hart and Frank Springer.

I'm not really sure exactly what Half-Man had in common with an Amoeba, which is an amorphous single-celled organism. I guess the idea sounded cool at the time. He really shouldn't have been injured by the spear in the least.

On the right side of the third image only, Half-Man appeared to have a tail, yet it wasn't seen in any subsequent story panels.

With his scaly green skin, and what appeared to be webbed-feet, Half-Man looked more like a Human/Reptilian hybrid.

And considering what appeared to be an energy discharge around Half-Man after he was hit by the spear, maybe that weapon was electrified -- if that didn't kill him, then the explosive destruction of Supremus' base surely finished him off. -- Ron Fredricks
