Powers: Failure Five possessed superhuman strength (@ Class 10) and a dense metal frame. It was capable of independent thought, but possessed an unstable power source, which would not allow it to operate distantly from its laboratory for any significant length of time. It could release powerful electric blasts, sufficient to stun Machine Man. It had a misshapen configuration.

History: Failure Five was created by Dr. Wurno at an unnamed military facility. He called it a failure because it failed to work properly or operate for any length of time on its own power. However, somehow the robot gained intelligence and completed its own power circuit. This improved its function, but it would still rapidly exhaust its resources when active.

Failure Five sought to force Wurno to transfer its mind into the body of Machine Man, to enable it to gain a more lasting power source. It ambushed Machine Man and defeated him, but had to flee back to Wurno's lab due to dangerously low power levels. Machine Man tracked Failure Five's energy trail back to Wurno's lab, but was incapacitated by a missile launched by the military security of the lab. Agents of Wurno beat the security to Machine Man's inert form and brought it secretly to his lab.

Wurno hooked Machine Man up to a power neutralizer and prepared to perform the transfer of the two robots' minds. Machine Man regained awareness and broke free, only to be ambushed from behind by Failure Five. However, Machine Man managed to rally and decapitate Failure Five, rendering it inert.
