FABRIKANT

Real Name: Fabrikant

Identity/Class: Extra-terrestrial (Autocron)

Occupation: Technician

Affiliations: Starblasters, Stranger

Enemies: Kayla Ballantine

Known Relatives: None

Aliases: None

Base of Operations: Currently, unknown; formerly, the Dark Seed, mobile in the known universe

First Appearance: Quasar#53 (December, 1993)

Powers/Abilities: Fabrikant's body is iron-based, and he possesses superhuman strength and endurance. Although he may possess built-in weaponry like most Autocrons, he was only seen to wield conventional weapons such as laser pistols and swords.

History: Fabrikant is a member of the Autocron race who, at one time, became a member of Skeletron's crew, the Starblasters.  Skeletron came to regard Fabrikant as his most trustworthy associate, because they were both non-organic lifeforms.

(Quasar#53) - Fabrikant was present with the crew of the Dark Seed as they arrived at earth, pursuing the Starbrand, and took up a hiding place behind the earth's moon.

(Starblast#1) - As Skeletron prepared to set his plan to obtain the Starbrand into motion, he had Fabrikant launch a Moon Thruster onto earth's moon, to knock the moon out of earth's orbit while they sought after Kayla Ballantine, the Starbrand's possessor.

(Starblast#2) - The Starblasters brought Kayla to the Stranger for him to analyze.  Fabrikant was assigned the duty of escorting her to the surface of the Stranger's world.

(Quasar#55) - After returning to the Dark Seed, Fabrikant detected the arrival of superhumans from earth, and alerted the other Starblasters so that they could defend the Stranger.

(Starblast#3) - At the end of the skirmish with the superhumans, Fabrikant sent a holographic message to Nygorn, ordering him to attend to Skeletron, and to leave the superhumans to the other Starblasters.

(Fantastic Four I#386) - Fabrikant was contacted by Xlyym on earth, who had faced unforeseen difficulties while attempting to set up two Planetary Thrusters, and had lost both of them.  Fabrikant threatened Xlyym with death, and Xlyym resolved to use his ship to generate a tidal wave.  Fabrikant approved the plan, as their current mission no longer involved earth, and he hoped Xlyym might destroy himself.

(Starblast#4) - Fabrikant learnt from Skeletron that the rest of the crew had been ejected by him from the Dark Seed as he prepared for him an Energy Transmogrifier with which he planned to siphon the Starbrand energy from the earth of the New Universe into himself.

Comments: Fabrikant was created by Mark Gruenwald (writer), John Hebink (penciler), and Ralph Cabrera (inker).

Fabrikant presumably survived the events of Starblast#4, and was left on the Stranger's planet with the other occupants of the Dark Seed.

Fabrikant may be the technician aboard the Dark Seed whose voice is heard talking to Skeletron at the end of Quasar#48, but it is unclear whether Skeletron had even begun to form his Starblasters by then.

Also, maybe Fabrikant was the Autocron that was one of the Stranger's prisoners instead of Ten-For.  A few other members of the Starblasters (Nygorn/Nyborn, Captive/Threkker) were former subject there...

In Fantastic Four#386, Fabrikant is called "Fabricant", continuing the trend of Starblasters whose names are constantly misspelled by writers.

As pointed out by Per Degaton, the name Fabrikant may serve as an apparent homage to General Fabrikant, a comic book character from the Qwardian dimension in Green Lantern II#125-129 (DC Comics).
