History:

(Fantastic Four III#47 (fb) - BTS) - Latveria was apparently destroyed in a Russian attack.

(Fantastic Four III#47 (fb) - BTS) - Dr. Doom formed the Challengers of Doom.

(Fantastic Four III#46 - BTS) - Ben Grimm, performed unknown actions that resulted in a restraining order being placed keeping him a certain distance from Sue Storm, his ex-wife.

(Fantastic Four III#47 (fb) - BTS) - Galactus arrived on Earth in Russia and initiated construction of his elemental converter.

(Fantastic Four III#46 - BTS) - The Thing of Earth-616 was sent to Earth-CoD in order to divine the location of his reality's Ultimate Nullifier, a portion of which had been implanted in the mind of Johnny Storm of Earth-CoD.

(Fantastic Four III#47) - The Thing arrived on Earth-CoD, where he was mistaken for a monster or an alien, and presumed by some to be in league with that alien in Russia. Escaping into the sewers, he transformed back into Ben Grimm before returning to the surface. Doom and the Challengers presented a report stating the reports and images from Russia to be false, pure propaganda. Recognizing Galactus, Ben headed towards Latveria's Falls Plaza, where he was identified by a scanner, but barred from the building due to his past conflicts with Dr. Storm.

(Fantastic Four III#48) - The Challengers placed Ben in stasis, where Doom ignored his warnings about Galactus, denouncing him as having been brainwashed by the Russians. However, when the Earth's core began to be drained by Galactus, Manhattan was swept by massive tremors. Dr. Richards identified Moscow as the source of the drainage, and Ben, freed by the shockwave, confronted Sue, apologizing for whatever his counterpart had done to her, and convincing her to tell him where to find Johnny.
Escaping, Ben became the Thing again and traveled to the Baxter Building, where he found the drunken Johnny Storm wallowing in depression. Ben used Reed's device to scan the needed information from Johnny's mind, sending it to the Human Torch of Earth-616, the second piece of info he needed.
    Ben returned to Earth-616.

Comments: created by Carlos Pacheco, Jeph Loeb, and Rafael Marin.

Presumably some degree of a(n) homage to DC's Challengers of the Unknown, who are, by some reports, part of the inspiration for the Fantastic Four.

It would appear that the Challengers would not have had time to react in time to stop Galactus from destroying their world, but this is unconfirmed.

While Dr. Banner is obviously the Hulk (and an intelligent version, to boot) and Doom wears a face mask and gauntlets, it is unclear whether any of the Fantastic Four have any powers, or whether they ever took the space flight.

Clarifications:
not to be confused with:

Galactus

He arrived in Russia, and Doom's hatred of Russia caused him to deny reports of this potential danger. By the time the Challengers took the threat seriously, he had already completed his elemental converter and begun to consume the planet

Latveria's Falls Plaza

Presumably the counterpart to Four Freedom's Plaza, it was named for Doom's home nation of Latveria.

Johnny Storm

An alcoholic movie actor, he lived in the penthouse of the Baxter Building. Within in his mind, Uatu the Watcher of Earth-616 had implanted knowledge of the location of the Earth-616 Ultimate Nullifer.
