DRAGONUS

Real Name: Dragonus

Identity/Class: Demon (Class Two?)

Occupation: Warrior

Affiliations: Chthon; Aelfric the Mad Monk, Marie LaVeau

Enemies: Rintrah, Victor Strange, Werewolf (Jack Russell)

Known Relatives: None

Aliases: None

Base of Operations: Unnamed extra-dimensional realm (possibly a realm of Chthon)

First Appearance: Werewolf by Night I#3 (January, 1973)

Powers: Dragonus possesses great strength (Class 10) and durability. He is a skilled warrior, swordsman, and hand-to-hand combatant. He possesses large horns on his heads with which he can gore his opponents. In additional, he wears partial body armor and carries both a sword and an axe.
He dwells within an extradimensional realm and can be summoned by a certain spell of the Darkhold. If the spell is disrupted, he is banished back to that realm.

History: Unrevealed. The fact that Dragonus is summoned by the Darkhold would make it likely that he is directly connected to Chthon. He could be a human who came under Chthon's sway, or a demonic descendent of Chthon or one of his agents. He would most likely be a Class Two demon, since he is not an Elder God, and because he is tied to Chthon, who originates from Earth. However, he could also be Class Three, of extra-dimensional origin.

(Werewolf by Night I#3) - Dragonus was summoned by Aelfric to defend him against the Werewolf. Dragonus was the more powerful of the two, but in the course of the battle, he charged the Werewolf, tripped over him, and instead gored Aelfric. As Aelfric died, Dragonus was sent back to his realm.

BTS - Dragonus continued to grow in size and power.

(Dr. Strange: Sorcerer Supreme#17) - Marie LaVeau summoned Dragonus to defend her from Dr. Strange's allies. Dragonus engaged Rintrah in a short struggle, and Dragonus gored Rintrah when he was distracted by an attack on his ally, Morgana Blessing. The vampire Victor Strange attempted to aid Rintrah and Morgana, but was swatted away and knocked out by Dragonus. Rintrah took advantage of the distraction to grab Dragonus from behind, threatening to break his neck. Marie LaVeau was mortified that Dragonus might destroy Victor if he should break free, destroying her sole source of vampire blood on Earth at the time. Rather than risk one of the needed ingredients for her formula for youth, she banished Dragonus back to his realm.

Comments: Created by Gerry Conway and Mike Ploog.

Quoth Rintrah: "By the by, why do they call you "Dragonus," may I ask? There really isn't much of the dragon about you. Could it be that perhaps your mother wandered further astray from the herd than she ever let on to her rightful mate?"

CLARIFICATIONS:
No known connections to any other Dragon-anythings.
