Group Membership: Elders of the Universe

Affiliations: Guardian to Origin; Quasar

Enemies: None

Known Relatives: None

First Appearance: Quasar#37 (August 1992)

Powers: While Caregiver's powers are undefined she demonstrates both empathic and soothing abilities. She appears to possess healing abilities, and she is able to determine what another being requires to survive. She can apparently teleport, although the range of this ability is undefined. She may or may not actually possess telepathic powers. She is immune to aging or terrestrial disease, and can apparently survive in the vacuum of space. Her physical abilities are undefined.

History: Caregiver is one of the Elders of the Universe, a group of ancient beings who are apparently the sole survivors of their own, long-dead races. She has used her lifetime of perhaps thousands to millions of years to develop her abilities to nurture others. Her past exploits are largely unrevealed.

Shortly after Quasar and his allies saved the cosmic embryo that would become Origin, the Elder known as the Contemplator investigated the unique energies of Origin. The Contemplator, realizing that the embryo was in danger of dying from the injuries suffered at the hands of the Soul-Eater, summoned Caregiver. Caregiver calmed the embryo and sealed its ruptured embryonic sac.

When Quasar was seemingly destroyed by the Ultimate Nullifier, his Quantum Bands were transported to the newborn Origin. This led to a number of Elders, including the Possessor, the Explorer, as well as the skrull posing as the Contemplator, to seek possession of either or both the cosmic infant or the Quantum Bands. Quasar managed to reclaim the Bands, and the Judicator remanded the infant to the care of Caregiver.

Shortly after this, Quasar's mother, Quasar learned that his mother, Lisa Vaughn had developed breast cancer necessitating bilateral radical mastectomies. Desperate to save his mother from a possibly terminal illness, Quasar confronted a number of cosmic entities and requested their aid. Among these was Caregiver who claimed that since she had no cosmological significance, that his mother was outside of her sphere of influence. Whether she either could not help her, or was prohibited by cosmic law is unknown.

Comments: Created by Mark Gruenwald and Greg Capullo.

It would seem possible that she could in fact have numerous offspring, although she may restrict herself only to caring for others.
