BORU

Real Name: Unrevealed

Identity/Class: Extra-temporal (Earth 2099) human/mutant(?)

Occupation: Advocate

Affiliations: Conchata; Downtown Labor Unions; Miguel O'Hara

Enemies: Alchemax; Spider-Man 2099 (Miguel O'Hara)

Known Relatives: None

Aliases: None

Base of Operations: Downtown, Nueva York, Earth 2099

First Appearance: Spider-Man 2099#42 (March, 1996)

Powers/Abilities: Boru was something of a human/lion hybrid. His reflexes, strength and speed were all heightened, to the point where he was close to equal with Spider-Man 2099. He was also a natural leader who was quite proud of his Irish heritage.

History: (Spider-Man 2099#42) Boru led a group of Downtown's striking workers to Uptown, where they demanded to meet with Alchemax's CEO, Miguel O'Hara. O'Hara arrived, but in his Spider-Man costume. Boru claimed Spider-Man was nothing more than an Alchemax puppet, and jumped to attack him. Spider-Man was shocked by his speed and power, and was forced to retreat, fearing a riot might break out. Boru claimed victory, but Miguel's mom and secretary, Conchata arrived, and slapped him on the face. Instead of getting angry, Boru thought she was amusing. Miguel arrived, and Boru agreed to have a more civilized meeting later.

(Spider-Man 2099#43) In Downtown, Boru was shocked that Miguel actually arrived at the meeting. As they shook hands, Boru decided to add a little pressure, and Miguel responded in kind. Before they could resolve anything, a tidal wave began to crash through Downtown. Boru was able to get many of the people on the street to safety inside a building, but couldn't find Miguel.

Comments: Created by Peter David and Andrew Wildman

Spider-Man 2099#45 brought Ben Raab in as the writer, and Boru got lost in the shuffle. It's very likely he was one of the leaders in Nueva York during the reconstruction after the Flood.

The origin of Boru's powers were never revealed, just speculated on. I'd tend to go with mutant, but I just like mutants.

Historically, Brian Boru is considered one of Ireland's greatest leaders. Under his direction, the Irish were able to wrestle control from the Norse vikings who had invaded the land. In the early 11th century, he was able to unite Ireland under his rule, until, at the age of 80, he was murdered by the people he had spent his whole life fighting. Despite this, history has proven him to be the true winner, as the Vikings never took full control of Ireland again.
