History:
(Howard the Duck Newspaper Strip October 1977 - BTS) - Calvin's religious views and beliefs were those of the Puritans, a religious group of English Protestants from the 16th and 17th centuries. Under the banner of the Puritan Ethics Employment Agency, he was hired by Fred Feenix, the Self-Made Man, to act as his human resources agent for his company.

(Howard the Duck Newspaper Strip October 1977) - When Howard the Duck showed up in his office seeking work and began a shouting match with another prospective employee about him being a duck, Calvin broke the argument up by shooting a blunderbuss directed at the ceiling and forfeited the other man's place in line. He decided to interview Howard but due to his archaic religious beliefs saw him as a blasphemer and some sort of demon witch. He nonetheless took him to a testing area where Howard proceeded to explain to him that he was what he said he was and that he became trapped on Earth when the Cosmic Axis was malfunctioning allowing beings from other worlds and dimensions to temporarily appear on Earth. When the Cosmic Axis was repaired, he was accidentally left behind. The Puritan thought his story was all lies and truly felt he was a witch and attempted to drown him in a submerged chair in the building's basement. If he survived, he would be deemed to not be a witch. Being an anthropomorphic duck, Howard survived but nonetheless, the Puritan still wanted to do away with the demon and was about to incinerate him inside the building's furnace when Fred Feenix appeared and slapped him and then ordered him to set Howard free. Dismissed the Puritan returned to his employment office to wait for additional applicants to apply for employment.

Comments: Created by Steve Gerber, Gene Colon & Val Mayerik.

The Puritan wore attire of a 17th Century Englishman and was insane and merely played the role in which he took way too far believing he was truly what he was portraying.

The Puritans ccording to the dictionary were members of a group of English Protestants of the late 16th and 17th centuries who regarded the Reformation of the Church of England under Elizabeth as incomplete and sought to simplify and regulate forms of worship.

He was highly religious and believed the unknown and misunderstood due to lack of scientific principles were either in league with Satan or were demons or witches.
