History: (Kid Colt I#1/3 (fb) - BTS) - Pecos Pete and his accomplice robbed a bank in Cactus City but the town sheriff was ready for them and shot Pete's partner. Pete and his partner rode on their horses for two days trying to evade the sheriff and his posse.

(Kid Colt I#1/3) - Pete finally reached a campfire where Kid Colt had established camp. Recognizing Colt as a fellow outlaw, Pete turned to him for aide. Colt checked Pete's partner and found that he had died from his earlier wound. Just then, the sheriff's posse arrived, angering Kid Colt that Pete had brought the law down on both of them. Both men took to their horses and rode in different directions.

Pete eventually went back and found the tracks of Kid Colt's horse Steel and followed them to the town of God's Acres, a place inhabited by Quakers. Pete soon learned the residents had been panning for gold dust and had a fortune. As the Quakers were non-violent, Pete assumed it would be easy to convince Colt to assist him in robbing the town but Colt refused to work with Pete. Pete retorted that his own robbery in Cactus City was blamed on Kid Colt so he might as well assist him. At that, Colt punched Pete in the face. Pete was about to go for his gun but was surprised by the arrival of lawman Nathaniel Dawson. Pete was ashamed when he realized Dawson had no gun but Dawson ordered Pete to leave God's Acres. Dawson sent a telegraph cable to the county sheriff requesting more information on Pecos Pete.

While Colt was sending Dawson's telegraph message, Pete went to the cabin of Colt's friend Jim Cabot and shot him to death then robbed him. When Colt learned Cabot was dead, he realized only Pete could be responsible. Taking up his guns again, Colt confronted Pete and challenged him to a gun duel. Kid Colt outdrew and killed Pecos Pete. A telegram from the county sheriff identified Pecos Pete to Dawson as a wanted outlaw.

CLARIFICATIONS:
Pecos Pete should not be confused with:

Jim Cabot

Jim Cabot was a Quaker who inhabited the town of God's Acres. He found Kid Colt after he escaped from a posse and helped him recover in his cabin. Pecos Pete later murdered and robbed Jim in his cabin. This drove Colt to seek vengeance and kill Pecos Pete.

--Kid Colt I#1/3

Nathaniel Dawson

Nathaniel Dawson was the lawman of God's Acres. Being a Quaker, Dawson did not believe in violence and so did not carry a gun. He attempted to resolve problems without violence. When Kid Colt came to God's Acres, Dawson realized he was an outlaw but permitted him to remain there in peace. When Pecos Pete came to town and murdered Jim Cabot, Colt took up his guns again to kill Pete. Dawson had used his telegraph to inform the county sheriff of Pete's presence and the county sheriff informed Dawson that Kid Colt was in the area. Dawson showed the telegram to Colt and advised him to leave before the county sheriff investigated. Dawson told the county sheriff about Pecos Pete's death but claimed there was no news about Kid Colt in God's Acres.
