History:

(Teen-Age Romance#85/1 (fb) - BTS) - Judy Parker was self-confident in her beauty, choosing to wear the latest fashions and vainly refusing to let anything affect her well-groomed looks. But she also put down other women to promote herself. She booked a fortnight's vacation stay at Happy Haven Lodge where young singles could mingle.

(Teen-Age Romance#85/1) - Judy arrived at the lodge and instantly gained the attention of several men, including single Norman "Norm" Daniels. A dinner date between the two was quickly agreed on and Judy tried several outfits to impress Norm and make other women jealous. She deliberately went to the meeting point early so she could taunt two other women without dates. When Norm arrived, she held off going to dinner so that more people could see them together. As the days progressed, she made sure they were always seen together, but Norm noted that she was unkind to a shy woman without a boyfriend. When Norm wanted to play in the pool, Judy refused as she didn't want to spoil her hair. After a fortnight, on the night before the big farewell dance, Norm, disappointed with Judy being self-centered and her disparaging comments to others, broke off the romance with Judy, and chose instead to go with a woman Judy had been nasty to earlier. Norm's new date made no comment as they went off. Judy was left dateless, tearful and ashamed.

Comments: Created by Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, Vince Colletta.

This was later reprinted in the The Complete Kirby War and Romance (2021), a great collection of Kirby's work beyond his super-hero and scifi stuff.

These romance stories often had the flavor of the time in which they were written, and nothing else to tie them into Marvel's sliding timescale. As such, it's likely that the stories took place at the time of publication rather than being part of the sliding timescale.

Norman Daniels

Norman "Norm" Daniels attended the Happy Haven Lodge vacation getaway at the same time as Judy Parker. Like other men there, he was instantly smitten by her beauty and self-confidence. The two dated for the fortnight together there, but he grew increasingly disappointed at her vanity and being self-centered. Eventually, on the night before the big farewell dance, he broke off the romance to attend the event with another woman Judy had been nasty to earlier.
