History:
(Nomad II#20 (fb) - BTS) - Carmella Roya became an
emigre from Cuba, settling in Florida, USA. At some point, she achieved
a Ph.D. in chemical engineering and developed an experimental prototype
for NASA that, when hooked up to a plane's radar systems, could
scramble radio frequencies. However, S.H.I.E.L.D. became interested in
the project, intending to use it to disrupt Cuban communications in the
event of a crisis, and hired members of the mercenary squad Six Pack
(Domino, Grizzly, Kane plus Hammer) to steal it. Meanwhile, Roya
herself questioned its usefulness, considering it may be better to sell
it to drug-lords for free runs between Cuba and Florida, and hired
Nomad to retrieve it, and he was successful.
(Nomad II#20) - At a casino rendezvous, Nomad passed the jamming device to Roya, but warned her of potential trouble after overcoming the Six Pack.
Later, after the Six Pack convinced
Nomad of the device's danger, they confronted Roya, who was about to
pass the prototype for cash to a drug-lord. An explosive entry sent the
device into Nomad's hands as Nick Fury arrived. Frustrated, Nomad
smashed the device and told the angry Fury to have Roya build another
one, then advised Roya to ignore both her chosen countries if she
wanted to do right by them.
