History:

(Heroes Reborn: Remnants#1 (fb) - BTS) - Little is known of Mary Rina's past in Canada, save that she was often the victim of violence and bullying.

(Heroes Reborn: Remnants#1 (fb) ) - All that built up rage and frustration came out when she was attacked in the Canadian woods by a feral, clawed assailant. Looking death in the eye, Mary for the first time in her life fought back. Finding she had immense strength, she was able to kill her attacker by pulping him with a giant boulder.

(Heroes Reborn: Remnants#1 (fb) - BTS) - After his death, she decided to gut the man and take his indestructible skeleton as her prize. Not too long after this, she was noticed by the Avenger Swordsman who considered her as one of the replacement heroes for the Avengers who had recently gone missing (they returned to their home dimension following the events of Heroes Return). Mary was sought out by the team's field leader Mant (Ernest Sanger) agreed to join the team as Miss Thing. Mary was attracted to Swordsman and often fantasized about his body.

dealing with Panther Cub

(Heroes Reborn: Remnants#1 (fb) - BTS) - Swordsman, now calling himself Deadpool, trained the team for a short while before taking a leave of absence to undergo cancer treatments. He left Mant in charge, with Miss Thing serving as his unofficial second in command.

(Heroes Reborn: Remnants#1) - To drum up business for their new team, Mant hired a professional photographer to stage a fight scene for a PR shot. In their headquarters, the team posed with cardboard dummies of several supervillains. Miss Thing was furiously slashing a Doctor Doom facsimile until the perfect picture was taken. Taking a break between shots, she took out a copy of Sun Tzu's The art of war. Not even looking up from the book, she put the arrogant Panther Cub in his place by kicking the crate he was standing on when he called her "wench" and demanding she sewed his ill fitting costume. Before a fight could break out, Mant received a call from SHIELD general Darlegung who had a mission for the team.

attacks (Heroes Reborn: Remnants#1 - BTS) - Miss Thing and the others met up with Darlegung aboard a SHIELD helicarrier en route to Egypt.

(Heroes Reborn: Remnants#1) - Miss Thing and her teammates were stunned to learn their former leader Deadpool had gone rogue. Darlegung showed them footage of Deadpool murdering SHIELD agents to steal a Helicarrier as well as defiling the Sphinx. After the general produced definite proof of Deadpool's involvement, one of his engraved swords, Miss Thing furiously offered the team's aid. Mant tried to restrain her enthusiasm, after all they hadn't even decided on a name for the team yet. But Mary was adamant: all they needed was transportation.

(Heroes Reborn: Remnants#1 - BTS) - Darlegung arranged for the heroes to have access to the Fantastic Four's abandoned Fantasticar. Finding the craft only set four people, the five man team needed an extra seat. Miss Thing had an old recliner tied to the craft and sat in it while the team went after the Helicarrier.

(Heroes Reborn: Remnants#1) - Catching up with the Helicarrier, the team clumsily fought their way on board, succeeding in beating soldiers loyal to Deadpool with Miss Thing using the claws on her skeleton costume to hack into her opponents. They made their way to the control room where Deadpool was waiting for them, surrounded by dozens of nuclear warheads. Stunned to find their former mentor now morbidly obese and clearly deranged, they listened to his story while a dumbfounded Mary grasped with the fact she once fantasized about his body. They then watched as Deadpool explained the reason for his derangement: he had learned that they were all figments of powerful preschooler's imagination. They had all been created to live in a universe inside a little blue ball. Unable to cope with this, Deadpool had decided to lash out. Before Mant had rallied the others to stop their mentor, Deadpool had mounted a nuke and launched the entire arsenal at the Moon. Miss Thing and the others could do little else but watch as the rockets struck the lunar surface near where the Watcher lived. They then witnessed another aerial light show: Doctor Doom's global sidereal transmat field that shifted Counter-Earth from its pocket dimension to Earth-616.

So, here we have a woman who not only murdered a man without consequences but now wears his bones in her new career as a crimefighter? Hey kids, comics!

That Remnants oneshot is 100 percent zany, uncut weirdness that really doesn't hold up too well 20+ years later. But as a product of its time it's great fun. In the greater scheme of the Heroes Reborn event their involvement is negligible, making Remnants a relatively pointless book. But I guess that's the biggest meta joke of all.

Miss Thing's full name was revealed in the Remnants entry in Deadpool Corps: Rank and Foul I#1

Heroes Reborn Weapon X

Having recently escaped the Weapon X program that infused his skeletal structure with adamantium, the now feral and bloodthirsty man assaulted Mary Rina in the Canadian woods. In the end, he proved no match for her might and died when she pulped him with a boulder. After his death, Rina gutted his remains and took his indestructible skeleton. She later wore it as part of her uniform as Miss Thing.
