History: (Marvel Super Heroes Campaign Book - BTS) - Danny Paterson was part of a scientific expedition to the Amazon jungle when he was knocked from his canoe. A group of mysterious natives found him and nursed him back to health, giving him a powerful herbal potion that reacted to his blood and granted him special powers. His larynx was altered by the potion, giving him the ability to produce sounds in any frequency, amplitude or tone, and his feet were also altered, turning them into claws capable of piercing brick. Unable to keep his identity a secret due to his altered physical appearance, Danny decided to become the hero Mach 1, keeping his origin a secret to protect the natives who saved his life.

Comments: Created by Steve Winter and Jeff Grubb.

The character was created as an example (narrated by Spider-Man, who used the Daily Bugle copier machine to "print" the information) of a player-created character for TSR's Marvel Super Heroes pen-and-paper RPG. Each section of the Campaign book had a different Marvel character explaining the rules of the game and Spider-Man explains the rules of creating a character by walking the reader through creating Mach 1.
As such, he exists on the fringes of the Marvel Universe. Personally, I'd like to think Mach 1 exists within reality-616 since his story doesn't contradict anything in 616 but one could argue that he is nothing more than a fictional character created by Earth-616's Spider-Man since Spidey narrates the section in which he is "created." - Proto-Man

Mach 1 was never actually seen so his physical stats were impossible to approximate. - Proto-Man
