jewels-seven-sunsJEWELS of SEVEN SUNS

Classification: Presumably extraterrestrial gems of unspecified nature

Creator: Unrevealed

User/Possessors: Lila Cheney;
    formerly Jornik

First Appearance: X-Factor I#110 (January, 1995)

Powers/Abilities/Functions: The Jewels of Seven Suns emitted brilliantly blinding light; looking directly at them was painful and could potentially cause optic damage.

    They were apparently stored inside a bag, and the light emerging from the top of the bag was sufficient to be painful to see directly by the sunglass/goggle/whatever-wearing Strong Guy (Guido Carosella).

History:
(
X-Factor I#110 (fb) - BTS) - At some point, the Jewels of Seven Suns came into the possession of interstellar mutant Lila Cheney (who most likely stole them from parties unrevealed). She stored the Jewels in a bag and kept them with much of her loot in her personal Dyson Sphere.

(X-Factor I#110 (fb) - BTS) - Extraterrestrial thief

(X-Factor I#110 (fb) - BTS) - While Lila was out on her "How Can I Miss You When You Won't Go Away" tour, extraterrestrial thief Jornik raided Lila's Dyson sphere, taking everything she had her her vaults, including the Jewels of Seven Suns.

(X-Factor I#110 (fb) - BTS) - Jornik stored what he had stolen from Lila on Earth, within a decaying hotel in Madripoor's Lowtown that formerly boasted its exclusive location on the canal, but which now found itself in the canal as the filthy waters gradually eroded its decaying foundation. He figured that Lila would not think to look for him on her home planet.

(X-Factor I#110) - Seeking to recover the Harmonium (also stolen from her Dyson Sphere by Jornik), Lila confronted Jornik and forced him to bring her to wearing he was storing what he had stolen from her. As Lila rummaged through her stuff in search of the Harmonium, she moved the bag containing the Jewels out of her way. Putting his arm up to shield himself from the brilliance, Guido asked what that was, and Jornik told him it was the Jewels of Seven Suns and that he should not look at them directly. Guido noted that it was too late, but he was apparently only momentarily dazzled.

Comments: Created by John Francis Moore, Todd Dezago, Jan Duursema, and Al Milgrom.

    The jewels themselves weren't even shown, just the bag and the brilliance shining out of it....and that was just a single panel.

    It is unrevealed whether the gems were just so bright they were described as being "of seven suns" or whether they literally transmitted light from seven suns (or somehow contained seven suns)...or something else?

    I'd imagine Lila transported all of her loot back to her Dyson Sphere, but I don't think that was ever shown/confirmed.
