History:

(Ultra Monthly#6 (fb) - BTS) - Scot Scupperman was an almost obsessive comic book collector (not reader), particularly focusing on those he considered an investment. But he became frustrated at the number of comics offered with gimmicks, such as hologram covers, trading cards and variant covers. He took out his frustrations at a downtown comic store, shooting a twelve-gauge shotgun at a near-mint comic display of defunct ABC Comics' "Random Man" title, damaging many but injuring nobody. Shop attendants restrained him and he was interviewed. He complained he couldn't afford all the gimmick comics, yet insisted he had to have a copy of each as comic collecting was serious business. Damage was estimated at $1,000.

The incident was later reported in the Ultra Monthly column, "It's a Weird World".

Comments: Created by uncredited writer.

This was a text-only story in a faux sensationalist magazine published by Malibu (complementing its Ultraverse titles) that focused largely on ultras (super-humans).

There were a lot of variant covers and comic gimmicks back in the 1990s. The world has changed since then...

His surname could be pronounced "Superman."
