History:

(Spider-Man: The Animated Series: Season 1, Episode 7 - Kraven the Hunter (fb) - BTS) - Reeves was a colleague of Dr. Mariah Crawford, who disappeared while doing research in the African jungle.

Unbeknownst to the world Reeves had synthesized a miracle drug that could heal any wounds, prevent disease and infection. Reeves tested the serum on himself, but as a side effect it mutated him into a feral creature. He started to live among big cats and hyenas, who followed him around loyally.

Crawford hired Sergei Kravinoff, a former big game hunter turned guide, to find Reeves.

(Spider-Man: The Animated Series: Season 1, Episode 7 - Kraven the Hunter (fb) ) - Months later Crawford and Kravinoff found Reeves, who had been mutated by the serum. Followed by a pack of lions and hyenas Reeves gave Crawford the last vial of the serum, but warned her not to use it in its current form under any circumstances due to its mutagenic side effect. He then disappeared back into the jungle. Crawford followed him to convince him to return with her to New York City, but Reeves was gone and she was attacked by hyenas. Kravinoff saved her and Crawford used Reeves' serum on the seriously injured Kravinoff to save him.

(Spider-Man: The Animated Series: Season 1, Episode 7 - Kraven the Hunter (fb) - BTS) - Crawford eventually fled back to the US when the side effects of the serum turned Kravinoff into the feral Kraven the Hunter. In the US she worked on a cure for Reeves' formula.

(Spider-Man: The Animated Series: Season 4, Episode 4 (fb) - BTS) - Crawford kept working on Reeves' serum in Africa to make it save for use. When she became sick Kravinoff used the serum on her. Back in the US side effects of the altered serum mutated her into a feral state. Dr. Reeves' original formula remained stored at Crawford's old lab at the Hardy Foundation Research Center until Kravinoff stole it and used it to become Kraven the Hunter again so he could track down the mutated Crawford.

Comments: Created by John Semper & Jan Strnad (story) Mark Hoffmeier (teleplay) & the animators.

Why were lions and hyenas following him around? Lion King came out the year before...!? Is that a good enough reason? He was a Tarzan-type character.

He never spoke a line and was only seen in flashbacks. In Season 4, Episode 4 a flashback to his original flashback appearance was shown again, but nothing new was added to the character beyond the fact that Crawford kept working on his serum and had it stored at the Hardy Foundation Research Center.
