MORBIUS

Real Name: Unrevealed

Identity/Class: Extradimensional (Earth-1610) human vampire (possible hybrid - see comments)

Group Membership: None

Affiliations: Spider-Man (Peter Parker), Ben Urich, possible associate of Blade

Enemies: Vampires, notably Jennifer Grünwald

Known Relatives: Dracul (father), unidentified mother (deceased)

Aliases: None

Base of Operations: Mobile, notably New York, USA (Earth-1610)

First Appearance: Ultimate Spider-Man I#95 (July, 2006)

Powers/Abilities: Morbius possesses superhuman strength (in excess of 6 tons), speed, and reflexes, the full extent of which remains unrevealed. He can transform into smoke or mist, but it is unclear if he can transform into a wolf or bats as other powerful vampires do. He possesses an enhanced sense of smell, at least in relation to blood. Unlike other vampires, whose bite spreads their disease, Morbius' bite cures those infected so long as they have not completed the transformation, but finds the process painful, possibly because it awakens his normally restrained hunger. Morbius is an excellent fighter, and skilled in slaying the undead; he carries a number of wooden stakes, which he can throw with deadly accuracy. He has incorporated underarm batwings in his costume design that may afford him limited gliding ability. His belt holds about six wooden stakes strapped to his back.

Height: 6'1"
Weight: 187 lbs.
Eyes: Black with red sclera
Hair: Black

History:

(Ultimate Spider-Man I#96 (fb) - BTS) - Many vampires held Morbius in high respect due to his father being Dracul. Morbius made a vow on his mother's grave to limit vampire numbers; he did this by curing those he could through some undefined means or killing those who resisted. He followed a senior, powerful vampire who was guiding a newly risen recruit, Jennifer Grünwald. She had bitten Daily Bugle reporter Ben Urich as her first feed but Morbius intervened and a fierce fight ensued. Investigating, Spider-Man landed in the middle of the fray.

(Ultimate Spider-Man I#95) - Morbius pulled Spider-Man away from the immediate fight, urging him to leave to survive.

(Ultimate Spider-Man I#96) - While the senior vampire fought Spider-Man and fled, Morbius tackled and staked Jennifer, destroying her. Morbius watched Spider-Man swing away with the cursed Urich, who was taken and isolated in a hospital. Later, thinking Urich alone, Morbius approached, intending to cure the reporter with his own bite, but Spider-Man leapt out and tried to stop him. Morbius smashed him through a wall and instigated Urich's cure with a bite. New vampires attacked, but were stopped by a combined defense of Morbius and Spider-Man. Although Spider-Man was bitten in the chaos, Morbius could smell that Spider-Man was safe due from vampiric infection due to his irradiated blood. Impatient with the teenager, Morbius transformed into mist and disappeared.

I suspect Morbius is a vampire-human hybrid and may be long lived.

It's unfortunate Morbius was not involved, nor mentioned, in Earth-1610's vampire war against S.H.I.E.L.D. in Ultimate Avengers. It would've been interesting to see what variations were intended for the Ultimate Universe's Morbius.

Morbius told Spider-Man that [on Earth-1610] humans are turned irreversibly into vampires if bitten three times in the light of the moon. This seems to change in the later Ultimate Avengers vampire war.
