History:

(Ant-Man & The Wasp#2 (fb) - BTS) - The professional criminal known only as Funnybone preferred to run his crime syndicate as stealthily as possible. Funnybone's existence was known to the major players in the underworld, including A.I.M.'s Scientist Supreme Monica Rappaccini. Funnybone would regularly invest large sums of money in A.I.M.'s research and development branch.

(Ant-Man & The Wasp#1 - BTS) - Through aid of the Black Fox, A.I.M. had captured Heaven, a recent invention of Henry Pym's that functioned as a digitized, customizable afterlife. Pym had created it to ensure his recently deceased friend Bill Foster would rest in peace. A.I.M. planned to market Heaven, selling space in the device to the highest bidders.

(Ant-Man & The Wasp#2 (fb) - BTS) - Aware of Funnybone's obsession with life and death, Rappaccini made it a point to contact the villain.

(Ant-Man & The Wasp#2) - Rappaccini presented Heaven during her regular A.I.M.Cast, a webcast watched by Funnybone and several other of A.I.M.'s premier investors. He appeared intrigued by the notion of repercussion free immortality, even as Rappaccini kicked off the online bidding war.

So, what's the story behind this cross between Skeletor and Mad Cap? Creator Timothy Seeley was kind enough to reveal the secret origins of the character, even offering a name suggestion: "His name is Funnybone. The reality is, I had drawn in Dr. Doom I believe, and they had me change it for some continuity reason. Then, no matter who I changed it to, they had a reason for me to redraw it. So I just made up a cool new guy. I was hoping me or someone else would be able to come back and do something with him. Maybe someday he'll have a Deadpool sized movie and I can retire on a beach somewhere! ;-)"

The idea Funnybone is an as yet unseen major player in the villain community isn't that outrageous. After all, Taskmaster was retroactively revealed to have been supplying lackies and henchmen for two decades before he was introduced in Avengers I#196.
