History:
(X-Men Unlimited II#11/2 - BTS) - Cheryl worked as a waitress at Fruit Whipz in Salem Center's SaleMall.

(X-Men Unlimited II#11/2) - During Cheryl's shift she met young Roberto Da Costa (secretly Sunspot of the New Mutants) who had a bet with his friend Sam Guthrie, daring that he was brave enough to ask the beautiful waitress out on a date. But Da Costa was so taken by her beauty, he started to mumble and quickly asked her for a large berry whammy instead. After reading her nametag, Roberto tried to make small talk after which he finally asked her out to a party on Saturday night. Cheryl declined while handing him his drink.

(X-Men Unlimited II#11/2 - BTS) - Thrown by the experience and unsure he even knew how to talk to women, Roberto asked the Institute's groundskeeper Arty for advice. Having divorced several women Arty probably wasn't the best man to ask but Roberto heard him out anyway. As a result, he learned that all girls loved fast cars and smooth talkers. Da Costa went and prepared for his second try in the Danger Room until he thought to be ready.

(X-Men Unlimited II#11/2) - Several days later, Cheryl was once again approached by Roberto during her shift at Fruit Whipz. Wearing a suit, Roberto repeated his offer to take her on a date, talking so quickly Cheryl was unable to get a word in to turn him down politely. Fed up with his rapid fire ranting, she yelled out she wasn't interested. Later that day Cheryl went out partying at the Tropical Island Paradise where she ran into Da Costa and his friends Sam Guthrie and Rahne Sinclair. Surprised to find this was the exact party Roberto was trying to invite her to, she admitted she would have gone out with Sam if he'd asked her, noting she found him adorable. She then went on her way to enjoy the party.
