History:

(Excalibur I#3 - BTS) - Obsessed with space and possible alien life forms, Rupert used items found around the house to create what he believed was a scanner capable of detecting U.F.O.

(Excalibur I#3) - While searching for U.F.O. on a garbage dump in Newcastle, Rupert stumbled across Widget (a tiny cybernetic skull containing the scrambled mind of Kate Pryde of Earth-811). After the metal head ate Rupert's "alien" scanner, Widget transformed itself into a portal. Excited by the idea he was about to meet alien life, Rupert entered the portal and ended up on Earth-794 in the presence of Sat-Yr-9.

(Excalibur I#56 (fb)) - Unbeknownst to Rupert he was now standing in the prison of Earth-794's former tyrant. The insane Sat-Yr-9 gave Rupert a warm welcome only to kill him moments later. She maimed his body beyond recognition, passing the remains of for her own to fool her jailers. She then escaped through Widget's open portal to Earth-616.

Comments: Created by Chris Claremont (writer), Alan Davis (pencils), Paul Neary (inks).

Without any evidence to the contrary, it's fair to assume the slightly kooky Holloway's alien detector just got lucky with Widget.
