History:

(Thor the Mighty Avenger#4 (fb) - BTS) - Born into aristocracy, Brian Braddock met Alan by chance while Brian was with a camp of travelers. The two quickly became firm friends. At some point, Brian Braddock acquired enhanced powers and took on the identity of Captain Britain; he was moderately successful at keeping his secret identity.

(Thor the Mighty Avenger#4) - Alan introduced Brian to his friend, Celine, at the local public bar (pub). Meanwhile, Fandral, Hogun, Volstagg and Thor traveled from Oklahoma, USA, to the UK in search of a Norwegian tavern, but became lost. Thor went into the nearest pub to seek directions. Surprised at the appearance of the Asgardians, Braddock excused himself from his friends to secretly change into Captain Britain (although Alan told Celine). Captain Britain then asked the aggressive and frustrated Thor to leave, but this rapidly descended into a brawl outside. Thor's three companions merrily joined the rough but somewhat friendly fray, but Captain Britain remained defiant in nationalism until finally collapsing unconscious. His former opponents took him into the pub where the drinks soon flowed quickly and he recovered, the alcohol serving to reinforce newfound camaraderie until the Asgardians finally left. Thor later told his paramour, Jane Foster, that he'd made a new friend.

It's likely, but not definitively stated, that his powers are derived from the Captain Britain Corps.
