History: (Amazing Spider-Man I#213) - Tired of being hassled by the cops for sleeping in doorways, Wino Charlie wandered the streets of Chelsea, looking for a place to drink his wine in peace.  He came across Peter Parker's apartment building and took the fire escape to the roof.  He fell asleep up there, meaning he was still on the roof when the Wizard and Llyra bombed it in an attempt to kill Spider-Man.  After saving several other residents of the building, Spider-Man noticed the sleeping Charlie and tried to save him, but as he reached him, the fire-weakened roof collapsed...

(Amazing Spider-Man I#214) - Spider-Man saved the still-unconscious Charlie from falling to his death, using a waterbed to cushion their landing.  Using the waterbed as a shield, he carried Charlie out of the burning building and deposited him in an alley.  Ninety minutes later, Charlie woke up, smelled the smoke on his clothes, and briefly wondered what had happened before wandering off.
