History:

(Ultraverse Year Zero: Death of the Squad#1/1) - The Jumpstart Effect triggered Johal's powers and he realized he could control electricity, but told no one of it.

(Ultraverse Year Zero: Death of the Squad#3/1) - Johal's uncle asked him to work in a family franchise elsewhere in the city because his cousin was ill. On the way, he thought about using his newfound powers to gain wealth as those in the new ultra supergroup, the Squad, had done.

Later, rioting and violent looting broke out across Los Angeles in response to a "not guilty" verdict being passed for three white policemen filmed beating an African-American. Several looters approached Johal's store, smashed the window and racially abused him. Johal defended himself, unintentionally unleashing a massive electrical burst that burnt and killed the thieves. Squad member Forsa found him cradling one of those he had harmed.

(Ultraverse Year Zero: Death of the Squad#4/1) - Johal never told anybody about had what happened and so was never charged. He left the family business and followed his dream to become a photographer, keeping his power a secret.

Comments: Created by James D. Hudnall (writer), Scott Benefiel (pencils) and Jasen Rodriguez (inks).

The Los Angeles riots of 1992, triggered by the beating of Rodney King by five LA police officers, were concentrated in South Central Los Angeles, so perhaps this is where Johal's store was located.
