History: (Epic Illustrated#9/5) - Murkandor was employed by his master Nightgaunt to oversee the darkening of Velanna's soul. Nightgaunt had set up a crystal figure of Velanna which was slowly filled with darkness, and would reflect this change upon her in the real world. Nightgaunt also sent Murkandor to destroy the Sleep Crystal of Klarn which kept the dragons of Klarn asleep. Murkandor did so, and brought the fragments to his master to be repurposed into a sail so that he could journey into the Land of the Dead.

(Epic Illustrated#12) - Nightgaunt checked in on Murkandor, and saw that the crystal image of Velanna was almost completely full. Nightgaunt told Murkandor that they would use Velanna as their agent when the time was right.

(Epic Illustrated#13) - At a crucial moment in Tyndall's battle with Nightgaunt's forces, Murkandor finally made his move and had Velanna turn against Tyndall. When Tyndall struggled with her, she fell from the dragon she was riding and died. Tyndall later brought her back to life with Glorywand, and her renewed sense of love shattered the crystal image in Nightgaunt's castle, killing Murkandor in the explosion.
