First Appearance: Amazing Spider-Man I#88 (September, 1970)

Powers/Abilities: General Su was a normal human who was clever and patient enough to rise to the status of general and would have been considered as trustworthy and patriotic to his country, so much so that he was sent to the U.S.A. to address the United Nations, suggesting some level of diplomatic tact. His title indicates a military background. He was bald and smoked cigarillos, and displayed a somewhat philosophical and untroubled approach to life. However, he had achieved some level of infamy and notoriety as well.

History:

(Amazing Spider-Man I#88) - Onboard a 747 jet at Chicago's O'Hare Airport, General Su was about to embark on a highly delicate and important mission to address the United Nations in New York. Colonel John Jameson helped in the security of the plane and the protection of General Su, as Su's mission was very important to the Pentagon, with at least two MPs assigned to the task.

However, the escaped Dr. Octopus, newly reunited with his metallic tentacles, attacked the plane in an effort to make his way to New York, boarding the jet via the luggage ramp. The villain overpowered the MPs and he hijacked the plane. Realizing that General Su was onboard, Dr. Octopus hoped to be paid $10 million cash for the safe return of General Su, who sat patiently by, biding his time while Captain Fong became increasingly agitated.

As the plane landed in New York, many protesters had arrived with such catchy slogans as "One two! Who needs Su?" and "Phew on Su". Peter Parker, there to take photos for the Daily Bugle, changed secretly into Spider-Man and swung out to the jet. He then blinded Dr. Octopus by webbing up his spectacles, which allowed the hostages, including General Su and Captain Fong, to escape the plane as Spider-Man combatted Dr. Octopus. General Su and Captain Fong were then taken to the safety of the airport.

(Amazing Spider-Man I#88 - BTS) - He likely then left to speak at the U.N.

Comments: Created by Stan Lee (writer), John Romita (penciler) & Jim Mooney (inker).

General Su uses the term "Ah so", which is Japanese, but he seems to hail from communist China, although Chinese do not use this term. It is possible that he is from an Asian state not paralleled with our Earth, as his country of origin is not actually specified, although the image and name suggests a Chinese origin (given his appearance, name, uniform and negative U.S. sentiment). It may indicate the writer's confusion of Chinese terms, or even stereotyping of Asians. It is unlikely that he is a Japanese soldier who remained in China after WWII, as it would seem somewhat impossible for him to rise to the rank of general.

Clarifications:

General Su has no known connections to:

Captain Fong is converned for Su

Captain Fong

Captain Fong was General Su's aide and was very protective of the General. He was also rather upset that a criminal like Dr. Octopus could generate such chaos. When Spider-Man arrived to battle Dr. Octopus, he escaped with the General.
