(Spirits of Vengeance#8 (fb) - BTS) - The Soulless Ones were once humans, who willingly gave their soul to Mephisto. In Mephisto realm they were feared because they devoured other demons for pleasure.
(Spirits of Vengeance#8) - Mephisto sent the Soulless Ones to fight Ghost Rider and Blaze in a desert. The two demons flew to their enemies on a fiery cloud. At first they gained the upper hand against the Spirits of Vengeance, but eventually the two demons were defeated. One Soulless One was shot by Blaze with his Hellfire-rifle, the other got his head crushed by Ghost Rider. Mephisto appeared again and retrieved the defeated Soulless Ones. The one, who still had a head was sorry for their failure, but he didn't understand why Mephisto told the Spirits of Vengeance about the Soul Crystal and why he let them live when he could've easily crushed them. Mephisto didn't like it to be questioned and squashed the Soulless Ones with his thumb.
Comments: Created by Howard Mackie, Adam Kubert & Bill Reinhold.
These two are part of Mackie's Mystery Theater. Mysteriousness, big talk and action figure-like look included. Add a flimsy, nearly non-existent background story. Present them as the next big thing to let the issue look more than a filler between crossovers. Squash them like they never meant anything at the end of the issue to drive home the point that they were thought up in two seconds while wandering around in the horror section at the nearest video rental store. Insert more mystery.
