Okay, a little breakdown of what Puzzle Man is: In the old Fun and Games book, Marvel held a design-a-character contest for a mascot character for the book. Unfortunately, Fun and Games was cancelled before the winner of the contest was announced and their character shown. Sometime shortly thereafter, the winning design (re-worked by Marie Severin from John Schlim's entry) debuted in the Bullpen Bulletin page in various Marvel books.

Since nothing was actually revealed about the character, very little can be assumed. He's most likely human, but whether he's a mutate, mutant, or normal human is unrevealed.

Appendix contributor Monzo originally found and uploaded the images of Puzzle Man for us (thanks, Monzo!), but no one ever followed up on this. If anyone knows if the Fun and Games contest offered any additional information on the character, let us know.

Puzzle Man is actually a modified version of a character that appeared in an earlier Marvel title: Stan Lee Presents The Mighty Marvel Superheroes Fun Book (June, 1976). The giant pencil and costume are similar (except the question mark is on the mask instead of the chest, and there is no cape or goggles), so it seems like "Puzzle Man" was pretty much a rip-off of (or should I say "inspired by") the original creation called Puzzlemaster (see left)... which turned out to be the secret identity of none other than Stan Lee!
