History: (Tales to Astonish I#63/2/Giant-Size Incredible Hulk#1 (fb)) - Ray Moran was once a top salesman in New Mexico. One day while driving his car he caught sight of the Hulk leaping overheard, in the midst of a clash with one of the Leader's Humanoids.

(Giant-Size Incredible Hulk#1 (fb)) - Ray was so distracted by the Hulk that he rear-ended a police car. He attempted to explain what he had seen to the policeman, but was disbelieved. Ray went on to try and convince his friends and family, but no one would believe him. He eventually went to see Major Glenn Talbot to confirm the Hulk's existence, but Talbot refused to, saying it was top secret. Ray became so obsessed with proving the Hulk's existence that he wound up losing his car, job and wife.

(Giant-Size Incredible Hulk#1) - Years later Ray was approached by Fred Sloan, who was authoring a book about the Hulk. Ray spoke to Fred in a bar and related his sad story. When Fred expressed that Dr. Banner would feel sorry for him, Ray angrily declared that the Hulk was a monster who ruined his life. The bartender wound up ejecting Ray from the bar before he could make a larger scene.

In his original one-panel appearance Stan wrote this note: "The man driving under the Hulk will soon become known as the biggest liar in his entire neighborhood!!" Sure enough...
