History: (Two-Gun Kid#67) - The Fox began planning criminal activities around Tombstone, aiding the Younger Brothers gang in one of their raids, although the gang was then rounded up by the Two-Gun Kid. As his brother arrived in Tombstone, the Fox pulled off a robbery at the freight office so that people would not suspect they were connected. Steven convinced Sheriff Brett Barton and the Two-Gun Kid to ambush the Fox with a gold shipment that the Kid would guard, but when the Fox came for the gold, he was prepared. The Fox used a mirror to blind the Kid, then lifted up a cast iron shield (!) to block the Kid's stray bullets. He fled on horseback, and quickly rode to a second steed so that he could outpace the Kid. Finally, he transferred to a third steed and let the second continue, throwing the Kid off his trail.

Steven pretended to be dejected by the Fox's escape, and set off for Tuscon, with Nancy Carter accompanying him. Along the way, she found the Fox's mask in the back of his cart and realized they were connected. The Two-Gun Kid arrived and fought with Steven, and during their clash the Fox emerged from the back of the cart, revealing that the two were brothers. The Two-Gun Kid defeated both men, and turned them over to Brett Barton.

Comments: Created by Stan Lee and Dick Ayers.

The Fox rode across the desert with that heavy cast iron shield? Master planner indeed...

CLARIFICATIONS:
The Fox should not be confused with:

PROFESSOR STEVEN STANLEY

Professor Steven Stanley was the brother of the Fox, and supplied most of the brainpower for their robberies. He pretended to be on the Fox's trail attempting to assist authorities as his cover story, and Nancy Carter was attracted to his cerebral nature until she realized he was working with the Fox.

Although he left most of the physical work to his brother, Steven was a one-time statewide wrestling champion, and could hold his own in a fight.
