EARTH-94040 (EARTH-SCOTT SUMMERS & JEAN GREY HAD MARRIED EARLIER)

Type: Divergent Earth

Environment: Earth-like

Usual means of access: Presumably vibrational attunement

Dominant Life Form: Gods, humans, mutants, synthezoids

Significant Inhabitants: Angel, the Avengers (Beast, Iron Man, Moondragon, Scarlet Witch, Thor, Vision), Johnny Carson, Cyclops, Lorna Dane, Iceman, Krakoa, Marvel Girl, Alex Summers, Charles Summers, Sunfire, the X-Men (Aurora, Catseye, Colossus, Northstar, Professor X, Storm)

First Appearance: What If? II#60 (April, 1994)

History: (What If? II#60/1) - Just as Hank McCoy had decided to leave the X-Men, Cyclops and Marvel Girl arrived and announced that they had decided to get married. After the wedding, Scott and Jean Summers opted to live a normal life with Scott working full-time for a radio station and Jean using her contacts in advertising. Soon after, the remaining X-Men decided to go there own ways and move on to normal lives as well. With Scott and Jean becoming famous for their book America's Opening Heart: The Growing Acceptance of Mutants in Society and the original X-Men leading their own lives, Professor X formed a new team of X-Men. Eventually, Xavier discovered an extremely powerful mutant presence on the island of Krakoa and accompanied his new X-Men to investigate it. The X-Men soon found out that Krakoa itself was the mutant and given their lack of experience, the X-Men were soon killed by Krakoa. Once Krakoa made his move into Japan, the Avengers were called in to assist Sunfire in preventing Krakoa from making it to Tokyo. The Avengers eventually destroyed Krakoa and discovered the bodies of the X-Men once it had collapsed into muck. Charles Xavier was buried, with the original X-Men attending his burial.

Comments: Created by Kurt Busiek, Ron Randall, and Art Nichols.

The divergent point for this reality occurred during the events when the Beast first left the X-Men.

Alex Summers was never seen in his Havok costume throughout this story, though it was pretty likely that he was still Havok, given the time period that this story takes place in.

Profile by Proto-Man.

CLARIFICATIONS:
Earth-Scott Summers & Jean Grey Had Married Earlier has no known connections to

Angel

The Angel was the same as his Earth-616 counterpart up until he decided to leave the X-Men and pursue a normal life. While running his corporation, he ordered that the equal employment practices be used for mutants as well in terms of his business. Once Professor X was killed by Krakoa, Warren Worthington III was present at the burial with the original X-Men.

The Angel had feathery wings capable of flight, like his 616 counterpart.

--What If? II#60/1

The Avengers

The Avengers were the same as their Earth-616 counterparts up until Krakoa made his way into Japan. They were called in to assist Sunfire in preventing Krakoa's trek into Tokyo. They succeeded by having the Scarlet Witch sever Krakoa's connection to the Earth and then having Moondragon shut down his mind, causing Krakoa to collapse in a puddle of muck. They soon found the bodies of the X-Men amidst the muck.

They were: (from clockwise from top middle): Thor, Vision, Iron Man, Scarlet Witch, Moondragon, Sunfire (not a member but present with them while battling Krakoa), and Beast. Note: Krakoa is the monster in the center and he obviously was not an Avenger since they're kicking his muddy butt.

--What If? II#60/1

Cyclops

Cyclops was basically the same as his Earth-616 up until the Beast decided to leave the X-Men. He took that time to announce that he and Jean Grey were getting married and leaving the X-Men to pursue a normal life. He then took a job at a radio station and later, he and Jean wrote a book together entitled America's Opening Heart: The Growing Acceptance of Mutants in Society, which they appeared on Johnny Carson's talk show to promote. Soon after, he and Jean had a son together which they named Charles. When Professor X and his new team of X-Men perished against Krakoa, Scott and Jean went to the burial where Scott couldn't help but wonder what would have happened if they had stayed X-Men.

He possessed the same optic energy beams that his 616 counterpart had.

--What If? II#60/1

Lorna Dane

Lorna Dane was the same as her Earth-616 counterpart up until she decided to leave the X-Men with the rest of the founding members. When Professor Xavier perished, she went to the burial with other original X-Men.

She presumably possessed the same magnetic powers that her 616 counterpart had.

--What If? II#60/1

Iceman

Bobby Drake was the same as his Earth-616 counterpart up until he decided to leave the X-Men and pursue a normal life. When Professor X died battling Krakoa, Bobby attended the burial with other original X-Men.

He had the same ice-manipulating abilities that his 616 counterpart had.

--What If? II#60/1

Krakoa

Krakoa was the same as his Earth-616 counterpart up until Professor X led his new team of X-Men to investigate it. It soon revealed itself and attacked the X-Men, capturing them and killing them by draining their lifeforce. It eventually made its way to Japan where it was halted by Sunfire and the assisting Avengers, who managed to cut off his connection to the Earth and shut down its mind, causing it collapse into muck.

Krakoa, like its Earth-616 counterpart, was a living island composed of various Earth, dirt, and other stuff of the ground. It could feed off the lifeforces of others and had superhuman size and strength.

--What If? II#60/1 (#60/1d,

Marvel Girl

Jean Grey was the same as her Earth-616 counterpart up until she and Cyclops left the X-Men to get married. As time passed, she wrote a book together with her husband and mothered a son named Charles. When Professor X died, she and Cyclops went to the burial.

Marvel Girl had telekinesis and presumably low-level telepathy, like her Earth-616 counterpart.

--What If? II#60/1

Alex Summers

Alex Summers was the same as his Earth-616 counterpart up until he, along with other X-Men, left to pursue normal lives. He later attended the burial of Professor X.

He presumably had the same plasma generating powers that his 616 counterpart had.

--What If? II#60/1

Charles Summers

Charles Summers was the infant son of Cyclops and Marvel Girl. Cyclops was thankful that he had Jean's eyes.

--What If? II#60/1

Sunfire

Sunfire was the same as his 616 counterpart up until he aided the Avengers in destroying Krakoa.

He had the same fire-manipulating powers that his Earth-616 counterpart had.

--What If? II#60/1

The X-Men

The X-Men were originally the same as their Earth-616 counterparts up until the founding members left to pursue normal lives. Professor X soon formed a new team of X-Men and trained them until he discovered a mutant disturbance on the island of Krakoa. Accompanying the X-Men himself, Xavier and the others were soon killed when Krakoa itself was the disturbance. Krakoa attacked them and captured them, killing them all by draining their lifeforce. Once the Avengers destroyed Krakoa, they found the X-Men's bodies amongst the muck and had them buried.

They were: (clockwise from top middle): Storm, Aurora, Colossus, Professor X, Catseye, and Northstar.
