main image

Type: Divergent Earth

Environment: Earth-like

Usual means of access: Presumably vibrational attunement

Dominant Life Form: Humans, mutants

Significant Inhabitants: Colossus, Doctor Doom, Iron Man, Magneto

First Appearance: What If? II#39 (July, 1992)

History:  (What If? II#39/2) - When Magneto entered an elevator, he was stopped on each floor by the arrivals of Iron Man, Doctor Doom, and Colossus, respectively. Once he arrived at his destination floor, his magnetic powers pulled the metallic heroes and villain with him.

Comments: Created by David Cullen and Steve Montano.

This reality's divergent point would be when Magneto apparently lost control of his powers to the point that he could not keep from attracting metallic people.

Profile by Proto-Man.

CLARIFICATIONS:
Earth-Magneto Was Stuck in an Elevator With Colossus, Iron Man, & Doctor Doom has no known connections to:

Colossus

Colossus was the same as his Earth-616 counterpart. When he entered Magneto's elevator, he asked if anyone had a can opener.

Given that he was in his steel form during the story, one would presume he had the same ability to transform into steel that his 616 counterpart had.

--What If? II#39/2

Doctor Doom

Doctor Doom was the same as his Earth-616 counterpart. When he entered the elevator, he complained about how Walt Simonson tried to change his armor.

He presumably had the same mystic abilities that his 616 counterpart had.

--What If? II#39/2

Iron Man

Iron Man was the same as his Earth-616 counterpart. When he entered the elevator, he complained that his armor really hurt his nose.

He wore a suit of sophisticated armor, like his 616 counterpart.

--What If? II#39/2

Magneto

Magneto was the same as his Earth-616 counterpart up until he apparently lost control of his magnetic abilities. When he decided to take an elevator, he stood as three separate metal-themed people entered the elevator and a piece of his helmet flew away, as if it had a life of its own. Once he had arrived on his floor, his magnetic powers attracted the others and they became stuck to him.

Magneto had the ability to manipulate magnetism, like his 616 counterpart.
