First Appearance: What If? II#50 (June, 1993)

History:  (What If? II#50) - During a battle between the Hulk and Wolverine, Wolverine stabbed the Hulk through the heart and left him for dead. Recuperating almost immediately, the Hulk dove at Wolverine, stomping him to the ground. The Hulk then struck Wolverine repeatedly until he dislodged a vertebrae from Wolverine's adamantium spinal cord, killing Wolverine instantly. Moments after killing Wolverine, Rick Jones and Clay Quartermain arrived on the scene searching for a missing gamma bomb cache and discovered the Hulk's crime. With Wolverine dead, the battle for the omniverse between the Adversary and Roma quickly turned in the Adversary's favor despite the arrival of Storm and Forge. The Adversary soon killed Longshot, Madelyne Pryor, and Dazzler, and injured Colossus and Rogue. He then transformed all of Dallas, Texas into the first outpost of his new kingdom while the Hulk worried about how he had lost control. Deciding that he would ask Rick and Clay Quartermain for help, the Hulk left to find them but stopped in Texas, curious as to what had happened to Dallas. Upon entering Dallas, the Hulk defeated a tyrannosaurus and was praised by the Native Americans present while the X-Men were treated by paramedics for the injuries suffered during their battle with the Adversary. Eventually, Freedom Force arrived on the scene to arrest the outlaw X-Men but upon seeing them injured and three of them dead, Freedom Force instead was forced into an uneasy alliance with the remaining X-Men. When Spiral arrived and announced that she had a gray giant battling a dinosaur, Rogue immediately knew it was the Hulk and flew off to battle the creature responsible for Wolverine's death. She soon found him surrounded by the Native Americans he had saved earlier and gave him a fly-by punching. The two then battled furiously until the Hulk managed to knock Rogue to the ground with a piece of debris. After two crushing blows to Rogue, the Hulk was blasted by Havok, who had arrived on the scene with the remnants of the X-Men and Freedom Force. The savage Hulk immediately turned and ran at the teams. Mystique ordered Avalanche to stop the Hulk with numerous blasts of nearby stone but the Hulk managed to grab Avalanche and slam him into the ground, killing him. The entirety of both teams then attacked the Hulk with the Blob getting set on fire accidentally by Pyro and thrown on top on Pyro, immobilizing both of them. Psylocke then tried to soothe the Hulk by telepathically entering his mind but the Hulk's savage mind caused a backlash that knocked Psylocke down. To aid Psylocke, Super Sabre attempted to distract the Hulk only to take a punch from the Hulk at superhuman speed that killed him as well. With only Colossus and Stonewall left standing, "Rick Jones" appeared and tried to talk some sense into the Hulk causing him to pause momentarily until the Adversary appeared in the form of Wolverine and stabbed "Rick" to death, revealing him to actually be Mystique trying to stop the Hulk. The Adversary then revealed that he was using the Hulk as a pawn and blasted him away while turning and easily killing Psylocke and Destiny. He also turned and killed Havok by reversing Havok's powers back on him when Havok tried to sneak up on him. Colossus soon got up and announced his attack on the Adversary, prompting the Adversary to turn his attention towards Colossus. With the Adversary distracted, an angry Hulk tossed a lamppost at him, slicing the Adversary's host body in two, weakening him enough to allow Storm and Forge to free themselves. The duo then made their way to Dallas where Forge opened a gateway in which to banish the Adversary. Spiral poured her own mystic energy to maintain the gateway while Forge temporarily banished the Adversary using his own soul to seal the gateway. With the Adversary gone, Roma once again regained control of the omniverse and order was restored to Dallas including the daytime sun which transformed the Hulk back into a bewildered Bruce Banner. Unable to answer Banner's questions of what exactly had transpired, Stonewall placed Bruce under arrest while the few survivors mourned the losses of their friends.

Comments: Created by John Arcudi and Armando Gil.

The divergent point for this reality occurred during the events seen in Incredible Hulk II#340 (February, 1988).

The Roma seen in this reality was more than likely just an aspect of the true Roma, but I decided to include her in the subprofiles anyway...

CLARIFICATIONS:
Earth-The Hulk Had Killed Wolverine has no known connections to

The Adversary

Like his Earth-616 counterpart, the Adversary was an old enemy of Forge who had assumed the form of Forge's mentor, Naze. During a battle with Roma and the X-Men, the Adversary took control of Dallas, Texas and killed most of the X-Men including Dazzler, Longshot, Madelyne Pryor, Havok, and Psylocke, as well as a few members of Freedom Force including Mystique and Destiny. Following the Hulk's killing of Wolverine, the Adversary also manipulated the Hulk into entering Dallas, where he killed Avalanche and Super Sabre. Realizing that he had been manipulated, the Hulk severed the Adversary's connection to Naze, freeing Storm and Forge who soon arrived and banished the Adversary at the cost of Forge's soul.

The Adversary had vast mystical powers including restructuring reality, projecting mystic energy, changing shape at will, controlling everything within the reality that he restructured, and possessing others.

--What If? II#50

Avalanche

Avalanche was the same as his Earth-616 counterpart up until Freedom Force was called in to arrest the outlaw X-Men. Finding a few of the X-Men dead due to the Adversary, Freedom Force was forced into an uneasy alliance with the team against the Adversary. In the two group's attack on the Hulk, Avalanche was ordered to halt him which Avalanche attempted to do by repeatedly blasting the Hulk with rock and stone. The Hulk still made his way through the debris and punched Avalanche into the ground, killing him.

Like his 616 counterpart, Avalanche could generate tremors within the earth that would often bring forth rock and debris.

--What If? II#50 (#50d,

Blob

Blob was basically the same as his Earth-616 counterpart up until Freedom Force was forced into an alliance with the X-Men against the Adversary. When Rogue led Freedom Force and the X-Men to the Hulk, the Blob leapt at the Hulk who moved Blob into the way of Pyro's flames, setting him on fire. Blob then made contact with the ground and became immovable. Unfortunately, the Hulk's strength proved greater than the Blob's immovability and the Hulk lifted Blob and hurled him into the air causing him to land on Pyro, immobilizing Pyro as well.

Blob could become totally immovable, like his 616 counterpart.

--What If? II#50

Colossus

Colossus was similar to his Earth-616 counterpart up until the X-Men battled against the Adversary in Dallas, Texas. After a lengthy battle against the Adversary which cost him many teammates, Colossus was one of the only people still standing against the Adversary. Rushing to attack him, Colossus merely distracted the Adversary while the Hulk destroyed the Adversary's physical host. Following the Adversary's banishment, Colossus mourned the loss of his teammates.

Colossus could transform into living steel like his 616 counterpart.

--What If? II#50

Crimson Commando

Crimson Commando was the same as his Earth-616 counterpart up until Freedom Force was forced into an alliance against the Adversary. He, like the other members of his team, battled against the Adversary until the Adversary was banished by Forge. Following the battle, Crimson Commando mourned the loss of his teammates.

--What If? II#50

Dazzler

Dazzler was the same as her 616 counterpart up until the X-Men battled the Adversary in Dallas. Almost immediately, she was killed alongside Madelyne Pryor and Longshot by a blast of mystic energy fired by the Adversary.

Dazzler, like her 616 counterpart, could transmute sound into beams of light.

--What If? II#50 (#50d,

Destiny

Destiny was the same as her 616 counterpart up until Freedom Force was forced into an alliance with the X-Men against the Adversary. During the battle against the Adversary, Destiny tended to the wounded until the Adversary wiped both and Psylocke from the face of the Earth with a wave of his mystic hand.

Destiny, like her 616 counterpart, presumably had the precognitive powers.

--What If? II#50 (#50d,

Forge

Forge was the same as his Earth-616 counterpart up until he and the X-Men battled the Adversary in Dallas. Refusing to banish the Adversary to past failures, Forge and Storm were quickly taken prisoner when the Adversary took over Dallas. Finally getting free when the Hulk destroyed the Adversary's host body, Forge and Storm arrived in time for Forge to finally use his sorcery powers to open a gateway to banish the Adversary. Knowing that he needed souls to close the gateway, Forge sacrificed himself to close the gateway and banish the Adversary.

Like his 616 counterpart, Forge had a mutant inventiveness ability and was also trained in sorcery.

--What If? II#50 (#50d,

Freedom Force

Freedom Force were former mutant terrorists who acted as government agents, like their 616 counterparts. Sent to Dallas to arrest the outlaw X-Men, they ended up in an uneasy alliance with them against the Adversary and his pawn, the Hulk. During the battle, most of both Freedom Force and the X-Men were decimated and afterwards, Stonewall arrested the Hulk for murder.

They were (from left to right): Mystique, Stonewall, Blob, Destiny, Psylocke (not a member, but in the picture), Pyro, Avalanche, Crimson Commando, Super Sabre, and Spiral (not pictured).

--What If? II#50

Havok

Havok was the same as his 616 counterpart up until the X-Men battled the Adversary in Dallas. Havok remained one of the most persistent X-Men during the battle, surviving many assaults from the Adversary up until Havok tried to sneak up on him. The Adversary easily saw through Havok's ruse and killing him instantly.

Havok could transform cosmic energy into bursts of plasma, like his 616 counterpart.

--What If? II#50 (#50d,

Hulk

Dr. Bruce Banner was the same as his 616 counterpart up until he lost control as the Hulk and killed Wolverine. Afterwards, he contemplated his loss of control until he decided to ask Rick Jones and Clay Quartermain for help. While trying to find them, he stumbled into Dallas where the Adversary used him against the X-Men and Freedom Force. Out of control again, the Hulk killed Super Sabre and Avalanche before the Adversary revealed that he was only using him as a pawn. Angry, the Hulk tossed a lamppost through the Adversary's host body, severely weakening him, allowing for Forge and Storm to arrive. After Forge banished the Adversary and Dallas was returned to normal, the sunlight reverted the Hulk back to Bruce Banner who had no idea what was going on. Stonewall immediately arrested Banner for murder.

Like his 616 counterpart, Bruce Banner could transform into a creature with superhuman strength, durability, and healing whenever night fell.

--What If? II#50

Rick Jones

Rick Jones was the same as his Earth-616 counterpart up until the Hulk had killed Wolverine. Arriving on the scene with Clay Quartermain while searching for a missing gamma bomb cache, Rick witnessed the Hulk's murder of Wolverine. Afterwards, Rick and Clay left to find the bomb cache, leaving Hulk to contemplate his loss of control.

--What If? II#50

Longshot

Longshot was the same as his Earth-616 counterpart up until the X-Men faced the Adversary without Wolverine. Longshot, along with Dazzler and Madelyne Pryor, was one of the first to die at the Adversary's hands.

Like his 616 counterpart, Longshot presumably had superhuman luck powers and hollow bones.

--What If? II#50 (#50d,

Mystique

Mystique was the same as her 616 counterpart up until Freedom Force was forced to ally themselves with the X-Men against the Adversary. When Rogue was injured battling the Hulk, Mystique led both teams against the Hulk which cost them the lives of Super Sabre and Avalanche. Eventually, Mystique tried to subdue the Hulk by transforming herself into Rick Jones and trying to calm the Hulk down. Unfortunately, the Adversary did not like the idea of someone having a trump card and so he appeared in the form of Wolverine and impaled Mystique.

Mystique could change her shape at will, like her 616 counterpart.

--What If? II#50 (#50d,

Madelyne Pryor

Madelyne Pryor was a member of the X-Men who accompanied them to Dallas in the battle against the Adversary. Unfortunately, she was almost immediately killed by the Adversary once there.

--What If? II#50 (#50d,

Psylocke

Psylocke was essentially the same as her Earth-616 counterpart up until the X-Men were called to Dallas to battle the Adversary. After watching several of her teammates die, Psylocke attempted to calm the Adversary's pawn, the Hulk, by telepathically contacting him. Unfortunately, the savagery of the Hulk's mind proved too much for Psylocke and she collapsed due to the telepathic backlash. When the Adversary himself arrived disguised as the deceased Wolverine, he made short work of both Psylocke and Destiny with a wave of his hand.

Psylocke, like her Earth-616 counterpart, had telepathy.

--What If? II#50 (#50d,

Pyro

Pyro was the same as his Earth-616 counterpart up until Freedom Force was forced into an alliance with the X-Men against the Adversary and his pawn, the Hulk. After watching Avalanche perish against the Hulk, Pyro fired the full force of his flame at the Hulk, who used the Blob as a human shield and then tossed the Blob on top of Pyro, immobilizing him.

Pyro had the same fire-manipulating abilities that his 616 counterpart had.

--What If? II#50

Colonel Clay Quartermain

Clay Quartermain was a member of S.H.I.E.L.D., like his Earth-616 counterpart and was sent with Rick Jones to recover a missing cache of gamma bombs. While searching, the duo witnessed the Hulk murdering Wolverine and then left to continue their quest.

--What If? II#50

Rogue

Rogue was the same as her Earth-616 counterpart up until Wolverine was killed by the Hulk. As a member of the X-Men, she was called to Dallas to aid against the Adversary where she witnessed the deaths of Madelyne Pryor, Longshot, and Dazzler. While recuperating with the other surviving X-Men, Rogue was present when Spiral announced that the Hulk had entered Dallas. Determined to avenge Wolverine's death, Rogue flew into battle against the Hulk and was almost crushed to death until the other X-Men and Freedom Force arrived to help in the battle. The Adversary himself eventually arrived on the scene and killed many other X-Men and Freedom Force members until the Hulk weakened him enough for Storm and Forge to escape their captivity and banish him. With the Adversary gone, Rogue and other survivors picked up the pieces and mourned their friends.

Rogue, like her Earth-616 counterpart, had the ability to absorb the powers and memories of others via skin contact, as well as superhuman strength, durability, and flight.

--What If? II#50

Roma

Roma was the same as her Earth-616 counterpart up until the Adversary attempted to take over her omniversal rule. Without Wolverine, the X-Men were not successful in halting the Adversary's takeover of Dallas and Roma was imprisoned next to Storm and Forge in the Adversary's headquarters. When Storm and Forge managed to free themselves during the Adversary's weakness, they tried to free Roma but Roma told them to stop the Adversary while they could because if he were stopped, then everything would return to normal anyway. Storm and Forge quickly made their way to Dallas, leaving a captive Roma behind.

Like her Earth-616 counterpart, Roma was a sorceress.

--What If? II#50

Spiral

Spiral was the same as her Earth-616 counterpart up until Freedom Force was forced into an alliance with the X-Men against the Adversary. Returning from another battle, Spiral arrived just as the Adversary had decimated three of the X-Men and announced that the Hulk had entered Dallas. She then collapsed from injuries suffered in the previous battle and managed to muster enough strength to aid Forge in banishing the Adversary.

Spiral, like her 616 counterpart, had six arms and was a skilled sorceress.

--What If? II#50

Stonewall

Stonewall was the same as his Earth-616 up until Freedom Force was allied with the X-Men against the Adversary and the Hulk. After a battle with the Hulk, Stonewall remained one of the remaining attackers along with Colossus until the Adversary arrived disguised as Wolverine. After he killed Mystique, Psylocke, Destiny, and Havok, the Adversary was banished by the recently freed Storm and Forge, leaving Stonewall to arrest Bruce Banner for murder when the sun rose.

Stonewall had superhuman strength and durability, like his Earth-616 counterpart.

--What If? II#50

Storm

Storm was basically the same as her Earth-616 counterpart up until Wolverine was killed by the Hulk. Without Wolverine's help against the Adversary in Dallas, Storm and Forge were taken prisoner until the Hulk managed to weaken the Adversary enough for them to free themselves. Storm immediately flew Forge into battle against the Adversary and with her lightning and Spiral's magic, Forge managed to banish the Adversary at the cost of his own soul. With the Adversary gone, Dallas returned to normal and Storm mourned the loss of Forge.

Storm had weather-manipulating abilities, like her 616 counterpart.

--What If? II#50

Super Sabre

Super Sabre was the same as his 616 counterpart up until Freedom Force aided the X-Men against the Hulk. When Psylocke collapsed in a telepathic backlash, Super Sabre rushed at the Hulk only to hit the Hulk's fist at superhuman speed and perish.

Super Sabre had superhuman speed, like his 616 counterpart.

--What If? II#50 (#50d,

Wolverine

Wolverine was the same as his Earth-616 counterpart up until his adamantium vertebrae was dislodged during a battle with the Hulk. His spinal cord severed, Wolverine died almost immediately and his death was witnessed by Rick Jones and Clay Quartermain. Without Wolverine's help, the X-Men lost against the Adversary in Dallas and many of them perished fighting him.

Like his 616 counterpart, Wolverine had an adamantium skeleton and claws, as well as superhuman senses and a healing factor.

--What If? II#50 (#50d

The X-Men

The X-Men were the same as their 616 counterparts (excepting Madelyne Pryor, who actually joined the X-Men in this reality) up until they battled the Adversary in Dallas without Wolverine, who had recently died battling the Hulk. During their battle with the Adversary, the X-Men lost Dazzler, Longshot, Madelyne Pryor, Psylocke, and Havok. Forge eventually managed to banish the Adversary at the cost of his own life and the surviving X-Men and Freedom Force members mourned their losses.

They were (from left to right): Rogue, Colossus, Havok, and Psylocke. Not Pictured: Madelyne Pryor, Dazzler, Longshot, Storm, and Wolverine.
