History:
(Wolverine: Global Jeopardy#1) - After years of bearing silent witness as mankind destroyed the environment and its neighbors in nature, and of watching as laws proved too little or too late (or were ignored), an unidentified man decided to use his resources to create a place where he was a law unto himself. Abandoning his true name with the rest of humankind, a man took the identity of the Conservator and established a base on an uncharted island, which he named Castillo. He constructed it to give safe haven to those Earth species on the verge of extinction (either from humanity hunting them down or obliterating their former natural environments). He began teleporting members of these species to Castillo.

(Wolverine: Global Jeopardy#1) - The Conservator teleported a grizzly bear in Montana right from under Wolverine's nose.

(Wolverine: Global Jeopardy#1) - The Conservator teleported a family of three monk seals in the Mediterranean sea from the presence of Namor the Sub-Mariner.

(Wolverine: Global Jeopardy#1) - The Conservator teleported a white rhinoceros in Africa from the presence of the visiting Ka-Zar and Shanna.

(Wolverine: Global Jeopardy#1) - A pilot observed various endangered species on an uncharted Pacific island, north of New Guinea and South of the Caroline Islands. He informed Dr. Coral Morrison's organization of this finding.

(Wolverine: Global Jeopardy#1) - The X-Men's computers helped Wolverine trace the teleporter's energy. Namor commanded the sea life to lead him to the location of the missing seals. Dr. Coral Morrison informed Ka-Zar and Shanna of the island containing the endangered species.

(Wolverine: Global Jeopardy#1 - BTS) - Zabu summoned Devil Dinosaur to the island to act as back-up.

(Wolverine: Global Jeopardy#1) - Wolverine arrived first, followed soon by Ka-Zar, Shanna, and Zabu, and finally by Namor, with each initially blaming each other for the disappearances. After Shanna was knocked out during the battle, the Conservator appeared, denouncing them as being obsessed with their own petty squabbles and limited outlooks. He then brought them to his base and identified the island as Castillo. Explaining his motives, the Conservator trapped his guests within energy cages, intending for them to die there rather than risk interfering with his plans. The Conservator ignored their complaints that he was going at his mission all wrong, telling them that he didn't hear the animals complaining. Just then, Devil Dinosaur smashed through the building and shattered the Conservator's machinery, which freed his former prisoners. Shanna then explained to him that they were not just fighting for the right of the animals to live, but also for their right to live in a world that welcomed them instead of hiding them. She further explained that hiding solved nothing, and that he should be educating mankind: fighting for the glory and health of the biosphere, instead of creator an insular monument to his own ego.

(Wolverine: Global Jeopardy#1) - Soon thereafter, the former Conservator signed over Castillo to the authorities as a wildlife preserve resort. He spoke publically, announcing his hope to create a living, public memorial of what the world had once been. A blend of animal -- two- and four-legged -- co-existing with nature rather than savaging it. He instructed all who visited Castillo to take with them a reminder of the past...and a warning of what they must be again if they hoped to survive the 21st century and beyond.
