History: (X-Factor I#3 (fb) - BTS) - Senator Thompson was a friend of Warren Worthington, Jr., and became a mutant sympathizer even while sitting on the Senate Committee for Mutant Affairs.

(X-Factor I#3) - Thompson held a meeting with Cameron Hodge, who was working for Warren Worthington III's organization X-Factor, in which Worthington and his friends masqueraded as mutant hunters in order to secretly aid mutants. Thompson was aware of the duplicity in their public persona, but he expressed his concern to Hodge that the entire setup may prove to be a mistake.

(X-Factor Annual#1) - Senator Thompson arranged a meeting with Hodge and X-Factor at the World Trade Center, stopping the elevator between floors. He showed them photos from the CIA of mutants being experimented on in Russia, and revealed that the German scientist Wolfgang Heinrich was responsible. He asked X-Factor to journey to Russia and shut down Heinrich's facility, since he couldn't do anything without ruining his cover. X-Factor agreed.

Comments: Created by Bob Layton, Jackson Guice and Josef Rubinstein.

Senator Thompson may also be behind-the-scenes in appearances of the Senate Committee for Mutant Affairs (the first of which was Uncanny X-Men#158, I think).

Identified as Democratic Senator from Massachusetts in Civil War Files.
