Powers/Abilities: Nathaniel is a drunken sailor, early in the morning.

History: (Marvel Team-Up I#2) - As Johnny Storm was meditating on his recent break-up with Crystal, Nathaniel met him on the pier, and suggested that Johnny needed a friend to cheer him up. Struck with inspiration, Johnny became the Human Torch to go and find Spider-Man. Nathaniel was so surprised that he vowed to swear off drinking...then proceeded to stagger to the nearest tavern to (of course) seal his vow with a drink.

(Marvel Team-Up I#13) - Nathaniel came across Peter Parker, meditating on the recent loss of Gwen Stacy's life. Nathaniel attempted to encourage him to carry on, saying that he had faced sorrow in the past himself, but Peter slipped away without Nathaniel noticing, so caught up was he in his own speech. When he saw that Peter was gone, he was about to return to his local tavern, when suddenly, an object crashed into the water nearby, and Nathaniel saw a figure in the water. Thinking it was Peter, he reached out his hand to him, but it was the Grey Gargoyle, whose touch turned Nathaniel into stone and left the soused soothsayer stiffer than any of his previous shore-leave benders ever had.

Nathaniel presumably returned to normal an hour later when the Grey Gargoyle's power wore off.

Comments: Created by Gerry Conway, Ross Andru and Jim Mooney.

Grey Gargoyle had previously been shot into space in Captain America I#142 (October 1971) and his splash-down return in the nearby waters was the object that Nathaniel saw in Marvel Team-Up I#13.
