EARTH-9290 (EARTH-THE FANTASTIC FOUR WERE LED BY KEITH RICHARDS INSTEAD OF REED RICHARDS)

Type: Divergent Earth

Environment: Earth-like

Usual means of access: Presumably vibrational attunement

Dominant Life Form: Humans

Significant Inhabitants: The Fantastic Four (Human Torch, Invisible Girl, Keith Richards, the Thing), the Rolling Stones (Mick Jagger, Reed Richards, Charlie Watts, Ronnie Wood, Bill Wyman)

Significant Locations: None specifically shown

First Appearance: What If? II#41 (September, 1992)

History: (What If? II#41/2) - When Keith Richards led Ben Grimm, Johnny Storm, and Sue Storm into space on an experimental rocket, the group was bombarded with cosmic dust. On the way up and on the return trip from space, Keith Richards rode on the outside of the shuttle. When the foursome returned to Earth, they all discovered that they had been granted super powers. While Ben, Sue, and Johnny suggested that they use their powers for the benefit of mankind, Keith suggested they just rock. While they discussed their future, the Rolling Stones geared up for a concert with their newest member, Reed Richards, checking out the amplifiers.

Comments: Created by David Cullen and John Lowe.

This reality diverged from the events in Fantastic Four I#1 (November, 1961).

Of note: Keith Richards appeared at the age he was around the time the What If issue was made, not how he looked in 1961, suggesting that in this reality, the Fantastic Four did not gain their superpowers until much later (1992 was when the What If issue was released). -Proto-Man

No known connection to

KEITH RICHARDS

Keith Richards, after a successful career with the Rolling Stones, joined Ben Grimm, Johnny Storm, and Sue Storm as they travelled into space on an experimental rocket. When they made it back to Earth, Keith suggested they start a band.

Keith Richards, after years of smoking, was apparently able to go without oxygen for vast amounts of time, as he was able to travel into space and return from space on the outside of the rocket.

THE ROLLING STONES

The band was the same as their real-life counterparts up until Keith Richards left them to go into outer space at some point. Without Keith, the band continued on with their newest member, Reed Richards, who had somehow gained his stretching powers without the aid of cosmic radiation.
