Powers/Abilities: Dirge wore a suit of Eidolon Warwear, a powerful extra-terrestrial armor which could reshape itself according to his needs. He had employed his armor for some time, and could employ it for energy blasts, force fields, tendrils, blades, and swarms of remote drones.

History: (War Machine I#23 (fb)) - Dirge was a warrior who obtained a suit of Eidolon Warwear and became a mercenary, eventually becoming employed by Kang for missions across time and space.

(War Machine I#23) - When Immortus, disguised as Kang made Tony Stark install a temporal weapon aboard the Starcore Satellite, he dispatched Dirge to the satellite to defend it. The hero War Machine was led to the satellite by Skye, a mysterious woman who had given him a suit of Warwear. Dirge confronted the duo proclaiming: "Turn! Turn and face me! I must see your eyes as I take your lives! I need to see the life flicker and depart. I want to see the eyes glaze cold and sightless. It is my only pleasure." To which War Machine quipped, "Well then, baby...you gotta get out more!"

Dirge struck War Machine with a blast from his armor, and then recognized that he was facing a fellow Warwear user, but determined that War Machine was a novice compared to him. War Machine inexperience at battling in zero gravity gave Dirge an edge, and prepared to kill him saying, "Death would be a kindness to a charlatan like you...and I am nothing if not kind." But Skye blasted Dirge with an energy cannon so that War Machine could get away. Dirge shot a blade from his armor into Skye's stomach, delivering a fatal wound.

War Machine fought back at Dirge with his fists, surprising him, as he was unused to such "clumsy methods," then unleashed a swarm of drones to destroy War Machine. War Machine was able to burn off the drones, and the two fought on, their armors attempting to invade and overpower one another. As they did so, their armors bonded, and Rhodes saw into Dirge's past, and into the past of the Eidolon Host. Rhodes overpowered Dirge's armor, and the warwear killed him from the inside.

Comments: Created by Dan Abnett, Yancey Labat, Fred Haynes, Rey Garcia and Johnny Greene.

Although Avengers Forever retconned several participants in the Crossing event into Space Phantoms being employed by Immortus to confuse the Avengers, Dirge was not based on anyone the Avengers knew, and was therefore likely just an agent of Kang's who Immortus tricked into assisting him.

In the flashback to Dirge's history, War Machine saw the Eidolon Host battling the Brood, but it isn't clear if Dirge was actually a member of the Eidolon Host or just someone who had obtained a suit of Warwear the way Rhodes had.
