History: (Midnight Sons Unlimited#7/2 (fb)) - When Jonas Cray was 11, his sister was dragged out of their bedroom by a vampire. Jonas was too young to save his sister. In the years that followed, Cray began to study vampires, and when his sister finally returned, now a vampire, he staked her through the heart. Although his sister was now at peace, Cray suffered from survivor's guilt, and was nearly driven mad. Cray continued his studies into vampires, learning many more ways to kill vampires.

(Midnight Sons Unlimited#7/2) - In 1662, Cray was in the process of hunting a band of vampires who had invaded a church when he became possessed by Blade, a vampire hunter from centuries into the future whose mind had been flung back by a vampire with psychic powers. Entering the church, Cray/Blade found a number of people being held in a pit, then discovered the vampires hanging above in the rafters. As the sun went down, the vampires revived, and began to attack Cray. Cray struck the first vampire with his lantern, setting him on fire, then quickly decapitated another with his sword. He finished the last two vampires by driving one through a wooden timber, and burning the last with holy water, then decapitating him.

When Blade's mind returned to his own time, he was inspired by his experiences, having realized through his time possessing Cray that he was part of a tradition of vampire hunters stretching back for centuries.
