History: (Savage Tales I#1/4) - Joshua was named governor of the province of Potonga, in the newly-created African nation of Orbia. Joshua held strong viewpoints on Orbia's government, blaming them for selling the country's oil interests out to other nations, causing pollution that threatened Potonga's fishing industry.

In his attempts to clean up Potonga, Joshua came upon a girl who had sold herself to men for sex so that her uncle could buy medicine for her aunt. Joshua beat the money-lenders up, but the girl asked him to let them go, because she had done what she had out of the need to survive.

After a visit with his wife, Joshua went to a meeting with a female white reporter who undressed in front of him so that agents of Orbia's government could take photos of him with her. Her allies then knocked him out, and set out printing the photos to ruin Joshua's reputation. Soon, the people of Potonga were rioting against Joshua, and he decided to flee with Belle. On his way to his car, Joshua was shot by a man who had been waiting for him, but the bullet only struck his left arm, and he was able to defeat the gunman. Just then, Belle arrived, and mistook Joshua for the gunman. Joshua realized that she was involved with his enemies, and was tempted to shoot her, but couldn't do it. He walked away in torment.

CLARIFICATIONS:
Black Brother should not be confused with:

BELLE

Belle was Joshua's wife, but did not believe in her husband's ideals, being too accustomed to luxuries. She sold out to Joshua's enemies in Orbia's government, and helped let in the men who took photographs of him with the reporter in order to smear him. Once the people of Potonga had begun to riot, Belle arranged for a gunman to shoot him on his way to his car, but he defeated the gunman. Belle mistook Joshua for the gunman, and gave herself away. She admitted everything to Joshua, but also noted that he couldn't kill her. She was right, and he left her.
