Powers/Abilities: After being transformed into Hulk like creatures by Diablo, each Kalkhimithian was virtually mindless, but had superhuman strength and durability (class 25 or stronger?). They also became similar on a cellular level and two of them could be merged into one if they collided with each other. When all of them were merged together, they formed an almost unstoppable hundred foot hulk-like monster, capable of fighting the entire team of Avengers without getting seriously injured.
History: (Avengers III#38) – Kalkhimithia was a small Greek city of fewer than 3000 people, known for its olives + tomatoes + production of lignite. At night in Kalkhimithia, Diablo unleashed into the atmosphere a chemical, made from the soil in the gamma irradiated city called Middletown ("Gammatown"). The chemical quickly spread all over the small Greek city. As the day went on, as a result of the chemical, people began to get bad tempered, and before long, fighting became wide spread until fire and chaos enveloped the land. People transformed into Hulk-like creatures and turned Kalkhimithia into a war zone. The Avengers were informed of this and flew to Kalkhimithia to help.
(Avengers III#39) – The Avengers arrived and fought against the raging Hulk-like Kalkhimithians. The Avengers held their own and each hero fought several Kalkhimithians, as the gamma monsters were each very strong but lacking in cunning and skill. Eventually, Henry Pym discovered that all the Kalkhimithians were similar on a cellular level. He then kicked one Kalkhimithian into another, and the two creatures merged into one. The Avengers went on to force the Kalkhimithians to continue to collide with one another, intending to end up with one Kalkhimithian, which they would then shrink with Pym particles. However, the plan backfires as all the Kalkhimithians merged into one giant Hulk-like creature at least 100 feet tall, and it proved immune to Pym particles.
(Avengers III#40) – The Avengers struggled against the giant creature, but they proved unable to injure the beast and barely able to slow it down. Bruce Banner showed up and formulated a plan with Goliath while the Avengers kept the giant gamma beast preoccupied. Bruce Banner turned into the Professor Hulk (Hulk with some combination of Bruce Banner’s mind, Savage Hulk’s body, and Grey Hulk’s attitude) and with some help from one of the Scarlet Witch’s hexes, merged himself with the giant beast. After great effort, Hulk seized control of the Kalkhimithians' communal mind and forced the individuals whom the creature consisted of to return to their normal selves.
