History: (Avengers I#29) - Hu Chen had Dr. Yen brainwash the Black Widow into serving him after she had failed the KGB, and assigned her to destroy the Avengers by recruiting Power Man and the Swordsman to aid her.

(Avengers I#30) - After the Black Widow's first attempt upon the Avengers failed, she contacted Hu Chen for new instructions. Hu Chen simply repeated his earlier instructions, determined to have her destroy the Avengers before Dr. Yen's brainwashing wore off. The three villains had another chance at Hawkeye, but the Black Widow's brainwashing did indeed wear off, and she helped Hawkeye defeat her one-time allies.
