History:
(Wakanda I#2 /2 (fb) - BTS) - Xe'ntra became king of Wakanda and its
newest Black Panther, earning the title of King Xe'ntra the Bold and
falling in love with Nanti, who eventually died.
(Wakanda I#2 /2 (fb)) - The
rival Hyena Clan used the
Resurrection
Altar to revive Nanti under their control and they
made the resurrected Nanti appear to King Xe'ntra and claim that her
return was a gift from the Orishas. Speaking through Nanti, the Hyena
Clan led King Xe'ntra astray and manipulated him into mounting an
invasion of neighboring Mohannda. While most of the other Wakandan
tribes dared not speak out about Xe'ntra's actions, the Jabari tribe
marched down and the warrior Mamadou Fall stepped forward to challenge
King Xe'ntra's leadership. As the Jabari tribe pounded the Negus
cadence on their drums, Mamadou Fall bested King Xe'ntra, canceling the
energies of the Resurrection Altar. Nanti then died a second death and,
overcome with grief, King Xe'ntra the Bold became Xe'ntra the Bereft
and Mamadou Fall took the Wakandan throne as the first Black Panther
from the Jabari tribe lands.
(Wakanda I#2 /2 - BTS) - In the modern era, Wakandan
Queen-Mother Ramonda informed several Wakandan children of the history
of Wakanda's Black Panthers and she related the story of how King
Xe'ntra the Bold became Xe'ntra the Bereft, noting how Xe'ntra was led
astray by the Hyena Clan and how Mamadou Fall had assumed leadership
from him.
Comments: Created by Evan Narcisse and Natacha Bustos.
The exact dates of Xe'ntra's time
as Wakandan king were not clear though he was one of the early Wakandan
kings. If the order of Ramonda's stories follows the lineage of the
Wakandan kings then Xe'ntra would have followed sometime after Negus
and of course, as Xe'ntra's story explains, he was followed then by
Mamadou Fall.
I feel like Xe'ntra may have appeared in other issues besides Wakanda I#2, possibly as an unidentified ghost when a Black Panther communes with the former Wakandan kings or as a statue, or even just a mention somewhere...
Xe'ntra's height and weight were impossible to approximate, as he was never seen near any character whose height and weight have been officially determined...
Xe'ntra was never seen actually using the alias of Black Panther but when the modern era Queen-Mother Ramonda was telling children the story of Xe'ntra, she remarked that "even a Black Panther can be led astray," suggesting that Xe'ntra indeed was a Black Panther.
Xe'ntra never displayed any
superhuman powers and it was unclear if he possessed the enhanced
physical attributes granted to later Black Panthers via the
Heart-Shaped Herb.
