History: (Captain America I#264 (fb) - BTS) - Sam Wilson went into politics as a career. In 1969 President Kennedy, then in his third term, introduced Sam to famous Captain America, Director of S.H.I.E.L.D., and the two quickly became friends. Wilson supported Rogers when his wife Peggy died and again when his son was killed in a conflict in the Middle East.
(Captain America I#264) - By the early 1980s, during the sixth Kennedy administration, Wilson served in Congress as a representative of a New York district, while Rogers had left S.H.I.E.L.D. to become an ambassador. The two friends took a walk through New York during which Rogers confessed that he had been seeing strange things and asked his friend if he could be losing his mind. Before Wilson could respond, they heard a cry for help from inside a pharmacy where an armed robbery was taking place. The robber had taken the pharmacist hostage, and while Rogers began talking to him to de-escalate, Wilson circled around back and knocked down the assailant with a well-placed blow from behind. As the man was being taken away by the police, Rogers praised his friend's performance and jokingly suggested that he should consider a superhero career. Wilson declined, saying that despite the large progress made in the civil rights and other areas, there were still people who needed help in his home district.
(Captain America I#264 - BTS) - This reality was briefly overlaid with Earth-616 when Morgan MacNeil Hardy assembled four telepaths to power his Telepathic Augmenter and restructure reality to restore the America of his youth. However, the minds of the four telepaths unbalanced the device, changing the reality to match their individual ideals instead. This particular reality was brought on by Subject D, named Ursula Richards, who idolized Captain America and his values.
Comments: Created by J.M. DeMatteis and Mike Zeck.Published in 1981, the story is set during JFK's sixth consecutive presidential term. Normally this would be subject to the Sliding Timescale, however because the story depicts an explicit reality warp significantly altering the world history, these dates could be considered factual within the altered reality.
