History:
(Deadpool Team-Up II#893 (fb) - BTS) - A mercenary named Jasper Bateman developed an obsession with the notorious assassin known as Slaymaster, who had been killed by Captain Britain (Brian Braddock). Having admired Slaymaster throughout his adult life, Bateman became determined to assume his predecessor's identity.
(Deadpool Team-Up II#893 (fb) - BTS) - Learning that the original Slaymaster had maintained a secret headquarters containing an extensive collection of sophisticated weapons and equipment beneath Greenwich Park in London, Bateman set out to locate the individual responsible for designing the facility's security systems. His search continued for several years before he finally tracked down the designer. Bateman tortured the man until he revealed the security codes necessary to enter the installation without triggering its defenses.
(Deadpool Team-Up II#893) - Armed with the security codes, Bateman approached Slaymaster's concealed headquarters in Greenwich Park. He killed the British soldiers stationed outside the facility before gaining access to the underground installation. With the weapons and equipment of his predecessor finally within reach, Bateman intended to establish himself as the new Slaymaster and pursue his vendetta against Captain Britain.
Bateman's plans were disrupted by the arrival of Captain Britain and the mercenary Deadpool (Wade Wilson), who sought to prevent the original Slaymaster's dangerous arsenal from falling into his hands. During the ensuing confrontation, the heroes accidentally activated a device known as the Cultureswap machine, which temporarily altered their personalities, causing Captain Britain to behave more like an American and Deadpool to adopt exaggerated British characteristics. Despite the confusion, the two heroes ultimately overcame Bateman, preventing him from exploiting the arsenal. The would-be Slaymaster was subsequently taken into custody by Captain Britain.
(Amazing Spider-Man: Ends of the Earth I#1 - BTS) - Following his release from custody under unrevealed circumstances, Bateman was recruited by Doctor Octopus (Otto Octavius), who was preparing an elaborate scheme to threaten the entire planet. Octavius employed several super-powered criminals and mercenaries to defend his installations against anyone attempting to interfere with his plans. Bateman was among those assigned to protect one of the villain's facilities.
(Amazing Spider-Man: Ends of the Earth I#1) - When Union Jack (Joey Chapman) infiltrated the installation, Bateman confronted the British hero and knocked him from his motorcycle. Threatening Union Jack with his weapon, Bateman boasted that he possessed the superior firepower. However, Union Jack had modified his customary revolver to discharge powerful energy blasts instead of conventional bullets. Drawing and firing before Bateman could react, Union Jack struck the assassin with an energy blast, defeating him.
Comments: Created by Rob Williams and Matteo Scalera.
In Amazing Spider-Man: Ends of the Earth I#1, Joey Chapman shot Slaymaster and we see him laying on the floor with blood coming from his mouth. However, it seems unlikely that Chapman actually killed Bateman.
