(Sentinels I#1 (fb) - BTS/Graymalkin Prison staff profile) - When the Dark Elf Malekith led an invasion of Earth ("War of the Realms"), Michael Babineaux sustained third degree burns over 60% of his body. After the fall of the Krakoan mutant paradise, Xavier's school was turned into Graymalkin mutant prison with cyborg Sentinels as guards and hunters of rogue mutants. Babineaux received nanotech upgrades to become one of Sentinel Fireteam Alpha and codenamed Shellback. However, Graymalkin management had concerns over his psychological instability after each of his nanotech transformations.

(Sentinels I#1 (fb) - BTS) - On a mission to Lima, Shellback saw (fellow teammate?) Galleotti succumb to "grafting" whereby the nanotech took over the helpless human host; he asked team leader Lockstep to shoot him if that ever happened to him. Much later, Babineaux's father died the night before an important mission and he was given mood regulators to cope.

(Sentinels I#1) - Sentinel Fireteam Alpha was dispatched to the small town of Kemerovo Oblast, Russia, to hunt down and retrieve the dangerous mutant Omega Red. Team leader Lockstep ordered Shellback take point as rifleman and watch for any movement in a seemingly empty town. Shellback identified a feint reading from a small church where he found villagers had been butchered, but was too slow to stop the ambush attack by Omega Red. One of the villain's deadly tendrils pierced Shellback's shoulder and the Sentinel fell, fighting off an inner nanotech invasion while his teammates eventually overwhelmed Omega Red. Shellback was overcome by the nanotech; Graymalkin ordered the protocol that he be killed but Lockstep hesitated, so Voivod made the shot.

    Unfortunately, the little profile gems Marvel posted online weren't included in the trade paperback.

    A "shellback" is an experienced sailor who has crossed the equator by ship and completed a traditional initiation ceremony. This suggests Babineaux had significant maritime experience.

    This profile was completed 08/29/2026 but its publication was delayed, as it was intended for the Appendix's 25thanniversary celebratory event.
