the dots/making logical assumptions, Lynn
Grayfield was the older sister of Phil, and she eventually married Mark
Ridgway, adopting his last name, and they had a daughter, Melanie, who
played tackle football for Windsor Middle School.
(NFL Superpro#9 (fb) - BTS) - Lynn was frustrated when the some of the other parents complained that a girl shouldn't be on the field with their sons, and as a result, the Board of Education ruled that only boys could play tackle football.
(NFL Superpro#9 (fb) - BTS) - Lynn and her husband, Mark, as well as Coach Rich Henchey spoke to the Board, which refused to change its ruling. Depressed and disappointed, Melanie became more withdrawn, and Lynn and Mark became progressively more worried about her.

came to visit for a few days. 
(NFL Superpro#9) - As Lynn did the dishes after dinner, Phil told her that, as he was on the road all the time, he sometimes forgot how delicious a home-cooked meal could taste. Lynn told him that with raves like that, she was inclined to invite him to their place more often, and he replied that if his Sports Inside schedule allowed it, she knew he would visit more often.
Joking that she would just have to continue her life of loneliness as the sister of the famous sports reporter, she continued that it had been great having him to visit, and she apologized that Melanie had not been her usual perky self during his stay. When Phil revealed a new football as his solution for a better mood for Melanie, Lynn noted that she didn't think that was such a good <idea>. Melanie then arrived, and Phil gave her the new football, after which she quietly thanked him and took it up to her room.
(NFL Superpro#9 - BTS) - After learning Melanie's situation, Phil went to talk to coach Henley.
(NFL Superpro#9) - When Melanie told her mom she had not properly thanked Uncle Phil for the football, Lynn told her he was talking to coach Henchey about her.
