First Appearance: Iron Man: Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. I#29 (July, 2008)

Powers/Abilities: Nasim Rahimov had access to several (60+) microminiaturized nuclear weapons ("thumbnail nukes") that were no larger than a single hollowpoint bullet shell; the case emitted stimulated emission lasers to quickly neutralize the amount of radioactive fallout from the devices' explosions. Nasim also upgraded Paladin's stun gun weapon so that it would quickly drain Iron Man's armor of its energy. Nasim was a clasically-trained painist. Following his abuse in the Kirikhstan dungeons, Nasim had lost his left arm and required a wheelchair to move. Nasim's wheelchair also contained the detonator for his thumbnail nukes. The wheelchair also genereated an electromagnetic dead zone to prevent Iron Man from reaching him and to isolate his technology from manipulation by the Extremis that normally allowed Iron Man to hack other technologies.

Height: Unrevealed (approximately 5'11")
Weight: Unrevealed (approximately 170 lbs.)

History:

(Iron Man: Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. I#30 (fb)) - At his home in Kirikhstan, shortly after his nation had become independent, Nasim Rahimov met Stark Industries executive Tony Stark, who had brought his date Katarzyna with him. Kirikhstan had been hit by a banking crisis and Tony offered to help fund Rahimov's business until the crisis was past. Nasim performed a piece of classical music on his piano to entertain Tony, then his wife Tara brought wine for them to celebrate. Tony expressed some concern about ensuring Nasim's business wouldn't be used in weapons research. Nasim insisted that his passion was in miniaturizing technology and he had "no interest in mindlessly fueling the international war machine." Nasim told Tony his company had made plans for devices designed to reduce radioactive fallout from nuclear weapons to near-zero. Tony, being similarly interested in both miniaturization and preventing war, found Nasim to be a kindred spirit; Tony agreed to let Nasim have limited access to Stark Industries' microcircuitry research.

(Iron Man: Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. I#30 (fb) - BTS) - Unfortunately, Kirikhstan fell under the control of a totalitarian government. Someone in the government didn't like Nasim's research ("or maybe they just wanted his money") and threw him into a dungeon, then killed Tara. Nasim was badly disfigured by the brutal treatment he received in the dungeon. When Nasim was finally released he was permanently crippled and had lost his left arm.

(Iron Man: Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. I#29 (fb) - BTS) - Nasim devoted himself to building up an arsenal of nuclear weapons to have his revenge on the people who killed his wife and tortured him. He raised up a private army of mercenaries to assist him in planting the devices. He also wanted revenge on Tony Stark, whom he blamed for abandoning him to his government's torturers.

(Iron Man: Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. I#29) - Nasim Rahimov began planting nuclear bombs in Kirikhstan and released a list of "possible" bomb sites to S.H.I.E.L.D., knowing that their new director, Tony Stark, would involve himself. Iron Man and a team of agents began searching the locations for the bomb; at one of the sites, an abandoned prison, Rahimov's bomb went off, nearly killing S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Gomez. After Stark - as Iron Man - defused another one of the bombs, Rahimov made a broadcast to S.H.I.E.L.D., disguising his appearance to show that he had been mutilated but didn't reveal the full extent of his injuries. Rahimov vowed to kill the people who killed his wife

(Iron Man: Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. I#30) - Iron Man and his S.H.I.E.L.D. team located a site where Nasim had assembled a mercenary army that included the superhuman Paladin, but Nasim himself wasn't there. Paladin showed Iron Man a holographic message from Nasim in which Nasim told Tony he didn't warn to harm innocents and that Iron Man should leave the country while he cleansed it of "the poison in its veins."

(Iron Man: Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. I#32) - Iron Man finally located Nasim in the remains of his old mansion. Nasim revealed the true extent of his injuries to Tony and that he had thumbnail nukes planted in his mansion, the city courthouse, the city plaza and in the Stalin Building, having chosen those three locations because the people who tortured him in the dungeon lived and worked there. Nasim intended to detonate the nukes in the three remote locations first as an act of revenge, then he would activate the nukes in his mansion. Iron Man observed that setting off the nukes would claim innocent lives, which Nasim had previously claimed he wouldn't do, but Nasim claimed that "things change." When Iron Man tried to attack Nasim, Nasim's wheelchair generated an electromagnetic dead zone to prevent him from reaching him. He also warned Iron Man the dead zone would likewise block his repulsor rays and Extremis technology. Seeing no other way to stop Nasim without him setting off the thumbnail nukes at the remote locations, Tony authorized S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Nicolas Weir to use the Overkill Horn (which had merged with Weir into the "Overkill Mind") to set off the nukes in Nasim's mansion immediately. The mansion exploded, killing Nasim.

Nasim's backstory is that Kirikhstan had been a satellite of the Soviet Union that had just become free shortly before his first meeting with Tony; obviously that doesn't fit the sliding timeline.
