(Bullwinkle and Rocky#3/1 (fb) - BTS) - Rich and aggressive "Thyme" magazine editor Rumpled Mudlock was kept focused by his loyal assistant Bumphos to identify the annual cover story of "Person of the Year".

(Bullwinkle and Rocky#3/1) - Mudlock evaded Bumphos' advice, too caught up on choosing the exotic skin of his wallet. Mudlock decided to get a complete unknown as the magazine's "Person of the Year" choice. By chance, Bullwinkle Moose and friend Rocky Squirrel came through the door, demanding to find out where the past five years of his missing subscription had disappeared to. Mudlock declared he would be the magazine's personality, but when Bumphos cautioned that Bullwinkle was a moose, Mudlock only saw opportunity to make Bullwinkle the first-ever "Moose of the Year" too. Realizing Bullwinkle's reason for being there, Mudlock quickly drew up a contract to have all missing years' issues given to Bullwinkle in exchange for his services to the magazine; Bullwinkle naively agreed. However, Mudlock soon realized that Bullwinkle had little public appeal as staff carelessly thought him a hatrack. Listening nearby, nefarious duo, Boris Badenov and Natasha Fatale, keen to discredit or destroy Bullwinkle and Rocky, barged into the office, masquerading as star-makers. Bumphos suggested Bullwinkle as a candidate and the villains gave him their Charisma Coat, which made the wearer irresistibly appealing. Upon putting on the outfit, Bullwinkle became the center of adoring attention by all in the office.
Bullwinkle was quickly publicly paraded around in the suit with captivated crowds eagerly buying worthless penants as souvenirs. Badenov and Fatale rejoiced in the money and stole the priceless Nope Diamond while everyone was distracted. Meanwhile, Bullwinkle's favorite snack (a limburger sardine sandwich), which he had pocketed in the suit, leaked and caused a chemical reaction, making it an Anti-Charisma Suit. The crowd turned hateful and angrily chased Bullwinkle, who quickly threw the coat away, and it landed on Badenov and Fatale. The crowd attacked the devious villains and the duo were arrested. The following day, Bullwinkle's actions in stopping the diamond thieves made headline news in the major newspapers and magazines. Mudlock was ecstatic that his "Moose of the Year" was popular until Bumphus pointed out that Bullwinkle's face was on the printed cover everywhere else. Mudlock disregarded it as a "mere technicality!"

Rumpled Mudlock seems a clear reference to media tycoon, Rupert Murdoch, who began his career in the publishing industry. "Thyme" magazine is, of course, a reference to the long-running "Time" magazine.
Bullwinkle and Rocky could be early examples of the High Evolutionary's New Men, while Natasha is a product of the Red Room and Boris is her handler. (Black Widow originally appeared along with Boris Turgenov, and I'm sure the Boris and Natasha combination was deliberate).---Snood

He also warned that their magazine no longer had an exclusive on cover choice Bullwinkle Moose after his heroic deed made front-page news in all the major newspapers and magazines.
